"INDIANS ARE NOT ALLOWED HERE AND DON'T COME HERE AGAIN“ this is what the receptionist told me over the phone. So, I booked a table for 12 on Saturday and reached there in approx 20 mins. She said you will have to order 1 main course each person, which was weird but it was fine for us as we were going to have dinner there. When we entered, it had a weird smell and the HYGIENE RATINGS DISPLAYED ON THE DOOR WAS '3', which explained the smell and it is very low for a good restaurant. This is why we all changed our mind and came back from the entrance hall. In 5 mins, received a call from this very rude lady... I apologised to her to change our decision but she replied very rudely, shouting at me for changing our decision saying she set up the table for us and we changed our mind and that's why Indians are not allowed there...don't come there again. Such a rude and racist comment... Just can't believe that they are running an Indian restaurant and don't want Indians to visit... (They still named it Bayleaf Indian restaurant)

Very disappointed. We didn't come in because of your HYGIENE RATING AND DISGUSTING SMELL. If your restaurant was clean, you wouldn't have got that rating. I read other comments later and saw very rude replies to them. Will make sure, this gets reported. Completely Racist restaurant. If you like to eat in a clean restaurant and want to be served by friendly staff... DO NOT GO HERE. HYGIENE RATING - 3. And yes, I won't be visiting you guys ever.

Edit- Can not believe owners reply here. Instead of apologising you called me Stupid and arrogant just because I said the truth about the smell and the hygiene rating. We did not even see the Menu. Didn't even sat down.. The smell was bad enough for us to return from reception and hygiene rating said it all. So stop blaming it on the cost. Also, attaching the hygiene rating here which clearly says Food hygine and safety as Fair. Council won't rate you Fair ’’3“ on Food Hygine for a broken door.. another excuse. Your reply shows that how racist and rude you and your staff are. Your staff and now you have made really rude and big racist comments here... Says all about your business values....

We ordered a take away delivery from here 3 times while on holiday spending well over £150. The first 2 times we were obviously pleased with which is why we ordered for the third time. The third time was a Saturday night so I’m guessing they were busy, but no excuse for the mess up they made. We were staying at a holiday park near by and the driver continuously rang us to say he couldn’t find our caravan, which we understand can be hard to find, but we would have been happy to collect from reception again as we did the first 2 times, this went on for about 15 mins - by the time the food got to us it was just about warm. We opened the bag and the food looked like it had been thrown in there was grease on absolutely everything, and they had forgot my naan bread. When we rang to say they hadn’t given my naan they said they would deliver it right away. About 10 mins later we got a call and they said they wanted to give a refund instead of the naan. They offered to bring the money back to our caravan the next day, we told them that we were going home the next morning, so the only offer they gave us was that they wanted my card details to refund us, I was not happy to give my card details when we originally paid by cash, so we got no naan and no refund. This has now put us off returning which is such a shame as we were happy with the food. Service...

As a local sandown Family we Have Eaten in at Haldi or taken Way for years, But tonights sit in meal my wife walked out feeling Quite ill even tho my food and the rest of my families was (Okish) table of 4 But as i now sit at home feeling quite sick myself with a over powering taste of oil in my mouth and Stomach its not pleasent. The food has never left me feeling like this before...its a shame i have to write this review as the new own manager is doing his best but i just feel theres something missing in the standard of food haldi used to produce . after having a takeaway a couple of weeks ago and tonights sit in I honestly can say i wont rush back..Good luck in your new business but i cant warrant paying the over night increase of £3 on most of the same dishes whilst the standard Of food is slipping i dont know wether that is because of the Holiday makers are here or the 10% Scheme..but something isnt...

We were pleasantly surprised with this gem of a place in Lake / Sandown area. Went on a day trip to Shanklin and walked past Lake station and found this restaurant. I highly recommend dining inside instead of a takeaway. Staff were attentive and the dining area is clean and welcoming. We both ordered madras curry, some usual starters and the garlic naan - they were all perfect (and spicy enough) for our taste. For the price we paid for two, it was well worth it! Hands down one of the best curry places in Isle of Wight.

August 2025. We enjoyed our Indian meal at Bayleaf. The staff were pleasant and helpful on menu choices, explaining some of the dishes that we were unfamiliar with. The food was very good quality. The BYO on alcohol saved us quite a few pounds by bringing our own. Soft drinks must buy from the restaurant, which is fair. Service charge wasn’t added to the bill (that’s rare). Our bill for 2 people was £47, which is very good value nowadays. We added a £5 tip. We will return when we’re next on the IOW.
