Visited at lunchtime on Wednesday at 12.30 for a birthday lunch with three friends (table booked in advance). Beautiful setting right by the sea and very clean surroundings. Around 6 seated tables of 4 plus there's a takeaway service.
My experience was that the staff seemed stressed and unhappy - no one smiled throughout the 2 hours we were there. E.g when one of our party asked at the outset if a nearby unused parasol could be placed near our table, she was told curtly "No, they're using it." (They weren't.) To be fair, I later asked a different assistant for another unused parasol to be moved towards us and this was done.
My vegetable sandwich was ok but bread was very dry and didn't finish it. Nice coleslaw and veggies crisps. No checks were made as to how our food was at any time.
Long wait (15 minutes) afterwards in queue to pay individually and get ice creams, again with no trace of a smile and the lady (a different one to our waitress) again seemed stressed and abrupt with her customers.
I don't understand why some people in hospitality are so inhospitable - this hugely affects the customer experience and would not bother to return as a result unless for a quick...
Read moreWow doesn't begin to express how wonderful Fins is. The emphasis is on good food, healthy food, well balanced combinations. There is always a queue. If you want fast food then you best walk back up the path to the chippy. If you want excellent customer service, a friendly team, and actual proper, not ultra processed junk then you are in the right place.
Pull up a chair, take in the sea air and wait a while, you won't be disappointed. We first discovered fins in 2021, we come back every time we are on the island. Even the locals love the food and are more than willing to wait.
We highly recommend the soul bowls, buttermilk chicken, coffee, watermelon crush, kokoa collection hot chocolates, cacao crunch smoothie bowl, breakfast burrito, and pretty much everything on the menu.
We had a wheelchair user with us and we were made to feel incredibly welcome, like we were part of the family. Nothing was too much trouble. A huge thank you to everyone for making our stay a...

We visited Fins Café in Sandown on two consecutive days after a recommendation from a local who called it their favourite place to eat on the island. They weren’t wrong. On our first visit, we had breakfast — generous portions, well-prepared, and clearly made with quality ingredients. Everything was fresh, well-balanced, and satisfying. The drinks menu was also a standout: thoughtful and varied, and everything we tried was genuinely delicious.
We returned the next day for lunch and had the smash burgers with fries and coleslaw. It's easily one of the best burgers I’ve had, not just on the island, but anywhere. Cooked perfectly, well seasoned, and everything on the plate worked. I’d happily put it up against any of the better known burger spots in London.
The atmosphere is relaxed, welcoming, and serious about its food. Highly recommended whether you're visiting Sandown or just...
