The Beach Shack — Restaurant in England

Really disappointed. Drove from the other side of the island and thought we'd try some fish and chips by the beach and went by reviews. Should have taken a photo - portions are tiny! Chips seemed barely cooked and soggy, not crispy like other pictures. They were probably mccain skinny chips which aren't good unless crispy. Fish was good, but maybe just 3-4oz of prime fish loin, looked like a child's portion when we opened the boxes (smaller than another posted pic). The worst was the wait - it took at least 50 minutes, maybe even an hour for it to come out when 2pm they were not busy and there were several inside making food (served around 3). Another table who ordered after us had their food at the same time, perhaps sooner - I only realised they were eating after we received ours. Nothing was piping hot chips were just warm going soggy, fish warm, batter nice but not crispy - perhaps the orders were forgotten about as they came after I queried the time it was taking. Even the location or nice tartar sauce could not save it. I own a hotel / restaurant, and our 1 chef on his own sends sends out (freshly battered) fish and chip portions 3x the size in 15-20 minutes (along side making other meals). Quicker service i.e half an hour I would have given 3 stars, Hot food +1 star, bigger portions +1 star (would have happy to pay more). Very disappointed came here for the award winning crab cake and what a disappointment. I had to ask the waitress if it had crab in it, all I could taste was I think was lemon grass but could be wrong but what ever it was it was overpowering any of the other flavours even the pepper taste the same. All I got from the waitress was everyone else likes it. I explained to her that we are from Cornwall and have crab regularly, she did ask if I would like anything else but we didn't have time to wait for it. No refund was offered so I tried to eat it but couldn't as that one flavour was overpowering so I paid £11 for some chips and a few leafs. To top it off I went to the toilet. Although in a great location overlooking the sea, I was very disappointed with the meal and I had today. I was really looking forward to having hand battered fish and chips. However, when it came the fish was wet as slightly undercooked and it had very little flavour, and there was very little of it. I had been expecting chips, but I got oven cooked French Fries. I told the manager that I wouldn't have ordered that meal, had I known. I asked if I could have an alternative to the fries. He said he didn't have anything else to offer.
