Place to avoid. We came there for a cup of tea. I asked for a top up of hot water which to my surprise was refused by the waitress. I never experienced this response before. Most cafes generously offer to top up the teapot with hot water. I called for the manager, and the owner finally turned up. With a total despise he explained that he was here to make money and did not care about what customers said. He would not listen to our explanation at all and kept smiling with a content arrogance. Then he started lying, pretending that we had been asking twice the waitress for a hot water top up and that the (5!) cameras located inside the cafe were showing it. From the moment he produced that lie we knew that we would not have a chance to have a reasonable discussion with the man. Such dishonesty is appalling and I prefer not to imagine how he treats his staff. I am not concerned for him because greed never wins on the long run. I am more concerned for his staff. He employs an army of young people probably because they can be easily manipulated. Yes, a place to...
Read moreWe love The Duver but as long as we've lived on the IOW this restaurant. with its beautiful position, has always been let down by its service. In the past I have had to tell a member of staff not to sit on the counter where food was served. I have also seen a family of 6 (who had moored their boat), turned away because they wouldn't take an order for another 20 minutes! Today we had a couple of hours at our favourite place, had a hot drink, talking into an intercom to an invisible person behind perspex, moved up to another window to collect our drinks, waited for our bleepy thing to vibrate, to be served toast in a paper bag with NO PLATE. I can understand when Covid was rife but not now. In fairness my husband had a bacon roll which was full of bacon, but at £6.50 a shot it should be. Having been in hospirality I would have loved to have owned it and show them what hospitality should be like but it appears the owners are happy to rely on the beautiful place the restaurant is based, rather than care about...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWe visited on a very busy sunny beach day! It was a bit of a wait and we were at first a bit surprised by the prices looking very steep ... but! ..... when the food came (understandably it was a long wait with so many lunch orders and them all being cooked freshly!) The portions were huge! One portion of chips easily satisfied 2 hungry 8 year olds! And the amount of Crab on the salad was extremely generous! I was impressed that in such a busy service all the food was so well presented and all piping hot and freshly made! We did have to wait and there is only outside seating but if you understand the operational challenges they must face and want freshly prepared fresh quality food well made then make sure you visit - can't recommend enough! My only feedback is that we wish the inside seating was reopened and an evening dinner service resumed this venue is unique...
