We dined at Bellini's last night and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. We were seated just before 8, and the restaurant was relatively busy for a weekday night in August.
The menu was well organised and clearly prioritised the quality over the quantity of dishes. Upon ordering we were shocked to hear that they'd run out of pizza dough. Oh dear. For an Italian to run out of pizza dough is just not good enough. The pork wasn't available either. We asked to view the menu again and opted for the shrimp risotto. A very apologetic owner soon came over to apologise with a free round of drinks. We learned later that he'd taken 50% of the bill as well. Despite the atrocious start to the meal everything just got so much better from here. The restaurant's reaction to the crisis in the kitchen was very professional, communicating well to us what had gone wrong, why, and what they'll do to prevent it from happening again in the future. I would question why any Italian restaurant could run out of pizza dough in the first place, but in the first few weeks of running a restaurant I'm sympathetic to a few teething errors. For a new restaurant the service was otherwise like clockwork. All the food came out simultaneously, and was delicious. I would only criticise the very small portion size, as for the price it felt like poor value for money. The fries I ordered on the side were perfect though. We then moved onto dessert, and ordered the brownie and tiramisu. Both were fine, but nothing extraordinary. I personally wouldn't serve them in the bowls though - they felt like school puddings.
On a more general note, I'd consider playing more appropriate music for an Italian. I personally had no issue with the songs but in a relatively high end Italian restaurant they felt out of place. The waiters/waitresses should also wear slightly more formal clothing. I understand the desire to keep it laid-back, but equally I would question the target audience of Bellini's. It appears high end judging by the menu and decor but its character felt more like a standard high street Italian. This mismatch needs addressing.
This doesn't detract from it being a great restaurant though. Yes, it's got some teething issues at the moment, but last night I saw a highly motivated owner and team who are desperate to make Bellini's a success. I'd certainly...
Read moreWe went in as a local family looking for a new regular spot for good food. Going in we had high hopes, having heard good things and seeing the nice menu.
Our first disappointment came upon entering the restaurant and instantly feeling the cold temperature of the room. We sat with coats on, complaining about the cold and eventually desperate to leave, not considering desserts for this reason. The service was slow but bearable and friendly enough.
The next disappointment came upon ordering. Having been told that one item was unavailable, we made our selection. However we had been misinformed and despite it being early into the service 3 other items (including the one I had selected) were unavailable. This left one of our guests with dietary requirements very restricted as half the menu was now unavailable it seemed. The food was okay. The lobster linguine very nice and proof that good food can leave the kitchen. However, the lasagne was tasteless and lukewarm. Not served with a garnish or anything so frankly quite boring and tough to finish. The pizza was subpar and you could get better from a supermarket. Simultaneously salty and cold and overcooked.
The lasagne was listed on the menu with 'pick a side', so naturally we picked a side. We corrected the waitress upon being given the bill and were told it was a misleading mistake that everyone misunderstands and this is a prompt to pick a side rather than it being included. Absolutely ridiculous if you ask me, and totally misleading.
The prices are expensive for Cornwall, not that we would have an issue with this had it been worth it. But there is far better out there for less money. It's a premium-priced restaurant but failed to meet the standards to earn this status. We saw other tables ordering small starters and desserts for expensive prices and opted out of these.
It pains me to leave a negative review on a local restaurant, as we are all for helping out local businesses. However, we hope that the criticism is taken to improve the service. We won't be returning, which is really disappointing, as we went in with the intention of it being a go-to for the future. We went in with high hope and left cold, disappointed and...
Read moreToday we had an appalling experience at Bellini's,we have given them the opportunity as locals to improve and returned 3 times in which we hoped they would have of wanted to impress and deliver. We held off posting prior to today's experience but they excelled themselves on suggesting we do not return . First try our pancetta pizza took over an hour to reach us despite only having 3 tables serve. It was burnt to a crisp and tasteless..to which we were assured this was not how it should of been so when it was refunded I assured we would be back as evidently teething problems. On our next return it was OK but that being said we had a "wild" mushroom pizza which consisted of chestnut mushrooms and one shitake for £18.95.This I did not mention as we still enjoyed However today we had the house special limencello spritz as advertised on the way in,all I can say is it was AWFUL...wilted black ening mint served with a rotten wedge of lemon served on a bed of ice with a shot of limencello filled in a large glass of soda water...Needless to say we sent it back and asked to purchase a glass of wine instead. This they obviously took offence for but felt hesitant for our food given the attitude and lack of care. When our food arrived the Aranchini was enjoyable but the crab brushetta £19.95 small dish was inedible-bulked out with untold amount of dill mayo and so much salt we had to give feedback and complain. To which the owner said he did not feel we should come back again...to which I and my partner agree. We do not like businesses taking advantage of one off trade in a...
