I usually mock those that take photos of thier dinner, but today I felt justified. My meal was nicely presented and cooked to perfection. My litmus test for dining at a new to me curry house or restaurant is to sample the Biryani. Not the hottest by any stretch, but the Biryani has definate potential to be both very good or extremely bad.
The Bengal Kitchen is deceptive in it's appearance, being quite a compact venue, but that gives it a cosy personal ambiance, and it's not at all cramped. With the added advantage that staff are always in earshot. The environment is clean, comfortable and the moment you walk in, you are treated to the heady aroma of spices that hint at what is to come. ..and come they do. This was one of the very best lamb biryanis I have had the pleasure of. Everything about it was (for me) bob-on. Perfectly spiced and totally delicious. A little too generous a portion to the point I took a third of it home for lunch the next day. My keema naan was as good as it gets too. Oh, and the popadums & pickles included lime pickle which seems to be sadly missing in many places these days. My pal had the Jalfrezy and was equally impressed. Anyway, get yersen to Bengal Kitchen if you get the chance. Definitely worth a visit....
Read moreSee full review on @derby_diners instagram We visited mid week to try the 4 course for £14.99 offer that we have seen advertisements for around the local area. When we walked in we were shocked at how small the place was. The tables are quite close together but it wasn’t very busy so we were spread out. 4 course includes 1 poppadom each and a pickle tray. (Extra poppadom for £1 each) Any starter Any curry Any rice or naan (exclude lamb tikka or seafood) Small bowl of vanilla ice cream. Food was tasty overall. I’d say the starters were on the small side and the meat in the curry isn’t the best quality but can’t complain for less than £15 each. We left feeling stuffed and the service was good so no complaints over all. Take your own alcohol - they sell soft...
Read moreVisited Bengal kitchen two weeks ago for the first time with 3 of my work colleagues after being told it’s a hidden gem in Chellaston!
We were kindly greeted by Abdul who provided us with excellent service from start to end.
For starters I had the lamb chops and asked for them to be cooked medium rare. The taste and temperature was perfect so I’d highly recommend to try them out as a starter.
For mains I went for the king prawn Jalfrezi. The prawns were succulent and cooked just right. The spicy flavours were also just right . Thinking about it now is making my mouth water.
My colleagues also throughly enjoyed their meal. We shall be back very soon Abdul...
