bod Newport — Restaurant in England

Hate to write this but it's the honest truth plus it's the 2nd time in a row we have visited and encountered poor service. First time ok we gave them benefit of the doubt as we had been many times before and had no problems.

Myself and a friend walked in and first thing I noticed the Iceberg was off and sign on pump had been turned other way. We ordered 2 pints of White Star and the young bar woman said the barrel needs changing and will bring them up to us shortly. The barmaid walked upstairs 5 mins later to where we were sat and said the White Star is off and asked if we wanted something else. We asked for Steerage but that was not available either. We then asked for our money back and left.

A very similar thing happened last time we visited back in September but we ended up having bottled beer.

The place needs seriously sorting out like hiring more senior / experienced bar staff and people that can actually change a barrel for starters. Carries on way it is it won't last...

Been here a few time and the food "has" always been great with good service and a relaxing atmosphere, but I don't know if there has been a change in management or new chef because it's just awful now.

The last two time I've been here the food has been a complete let down, with slow service and a boring atmosphere. The first time I ordered a ploughmans which consisted of two small bowls of pickle, 2 slices of bread, 3 tiny lunchbox style sicks of cheese, and stingy slice of pie. Oh and not to forget the chopped stick of celery.

The second time I ordered a Cesar chicken wrap. The chicken was that dry it legitimately cut my gums, for a moment I thought the chef must have got the chicken mixed up with a bag of pork scratchings.

For the price you pay here you'd expect some food with at least moderate quality.

Went here with a friend and our 3 dogs for brunch.

Firstly the staff are excellent. There are plenty of them, and they all made us feel welcome; we were greeted with friendly smiles and info on the best places to sit with the dogs.

The atmosphere is inviting and clean. It has a nice chilled feel to it, and lack of music makes convo easier.

The menu has plenty of excellent options, and our eggs florentine (with added avo of course) was served very quickly. It was well cooked/presented, and extremely tasty! Poached eggs were perfect too :) Pricing was appropriate and the portions were generous.
