Basmati Contemporary Indian Cuisine — Restaurant in England

Absolutely shocking and disgusting service. Avoid completely. Ordered a delivery at 6.06pm and was told it would be 45 mins to an hour. After an hour and 20 mins called to find out where it was to be told the driver had left 10 mins ago (we're 15 mins at the most from Newport) 30 mins later still no sign of it so called again this time to be told he would contact the driver and call me back. 15 mins later still no food or call back so called yet again, staff seem in absolute chaos, chattering away to one another only to be told that the order had been delivered to someone else then that it had not been done, complete lies. Already paid by card so asked for a refund due to the 2 hour wait and shocking service to be told there would then be no food and if wanted a refund would need to go into the premises instead of doing a refund to the card! Asked to speak to the manager with no success, eventually spoke to someone who said the order would be cooked and he'd deliver the food personally in 30 mins. Never had a problem previously but think that the business has possibly changed. Food eventually arrived at 8.35pm, 2.5 hours after placing the order, food tasted fine and a voucher for £15 was given but unfortunately will not be used as will now not order...

Had my hen night there last night. Table for 6 of us was booked. Took ages to take our order. Finally got poppadoms we had ordered. An hour went by and our food didn't arrive. No explanation or apology for delay. Finally after 2 hours we got our meals, but some of the order was missing! Finally got all of the meals. The excuse was they had had a large group of people upstairs! One guy said I only work here! Obviously taken on more than they could manage. Whilst we patiently waited for our food several groups of people got up and walked out. They need to manage their time better and not book so many people in as they cannot manage! Tried Basmati restaurant on family recommendation. Not disappointed. Superb food and service. Immaculately clean. Deceptively generous portions. We had 3 poppadoms, pickle tray (kept for the whole meal), chicken dansak, chicken balti, 2 x pilau rice, 1 x bombay aloo, 1 x naan -£40. The chicken chunks were large, moist and definitely freshly cooked. Reheated meat is often dry and has an odd aftertaste. Doggy bag for tomorrow. Lovely extensive menu although we played it safe with our traditional favourites. However, there are unique signature dishes (for next time). Unlicensed so take your own alcohol. First class.
