Came to Castle Combe for a night and had a fantastic dinner and wine pairing here. The location is stunning. We came during the week in the off season and were only one of two tables which made it extra special. The menu was long and well rounded. I was very impressed by the inventive ingredients and combination of flavors - it was exactly what you’d expect from a Michelin Star kitchen. We came on the first night of a new menu, loved the duck, crab and chocolate with truffle 🤤 The wine pairing was my favorite part. The sommelier was so charming and excited to share with us why he had chosen certain wines. The pairing with the wagyu was fantastic - it added to and elevated the flavor of the food - I highly recommend getting the wine pairing for this reason. The thoughtful attention to your pallet was well planned and enhanced the meal. The one negative about the experience was that when we arrived we weren’t greeted and had to inquire multiple times on where to go. When we finally found someone that would take us to our table they didn’t take our coats which was odd as we had to walk through the rain to get there and then had to sit on our wet coats during the meal. Not sure what the confusion was but adding it here as it’s a simple fix and one that I believe won’t happen in the future if they read this review. The rest of the...
Read moreLovely atmosphere and very welcoming and friendly staff, but as a package, not quite up to Michelin star expectations. Some courses (like the tomato dish) were exceptional, but mains were very small (even by Michelin standards!). The bite sized beef course was 20% gristle. The cheese course (£15pp extra) was just one small piece to share, served only with a tarte Tatin. The staff (again lovely and friendly) are not getting the training they deserve - for example, they consistently told us how lovely/delicious the food was rather than letting it speak for itself. Overall the experience lacked Michelin-level polish. At booking we were asked to note whether we were celebrating a special occasion (we were and said so) but no one referenced it. Similarly, the (absolutely lovely and highly knowledgeable) sommelier had not been able to taste the wine we chose (half bottle). It would also have been nice to have our welcome drink outdoors on the beautiful Bybrook terrace rather than the hotel bar; this felt like a missed opportunity. At £400 for four courses, portions especially felt disappointing...
Read moreAmazing location in Castle Combe and good hospitality at Manor House hotel, but experience dropped due to Bybrook restaurant.
Were a few tasty selections on both the regular and vegetarian tasting menu, such as the trout and coconut/mango course. However as the restaurant got full the complete lack of attention from staff on food and drinks was extremely poor. The waiting time between final courses became painful, until we simply left without finishing our final course.
Only apology when leaving from staff was that the restaurant was busy as it was Saturday! Reality is versus other Michelin star restaurants and given the prices were both upset.
