The gentleman behind the bar was amenable and caring of the work he did. He helped where he could and was knowledgeable about the menu. He was able to guide the wide variety of tourists to select the food they wanted in English only. The food hit the spot, decent taste and decent portions for the price. This place gets a lot of tourists from all nationalities. Be prepared to wait for those who aren’t familiar with English customs or don’t understand the language terribly well. I would suggest bringing some cash as there is a minimum card spend of around £6. There are a lot of reviews saying the staff are rude but this I would say this is frustration more than anything. The staff have to deal with a lot of people who don’t know English customs, can’t speak the language entirely and go through a lot of faff when paying (foreign cards, only large notes). The coffee there is also good, better than a lot of standard coffee from pubs. The milk used had a sweet creaminess to it. The pub is also dog friendly. I stumbled upon this place whilst exploring, I didn’t stay in the hotel.

I must admit my partner and I were somewhat apprehensive when reading the reviews for this pub but we decided to give The White Hart a try. Happy to say it was a really good decision. The food was excellent and the landlord and landlady were pleasant and polite throughout our dining experience. I had the beef stew which was home made and my partner had the burger. The ale was superb also. The pub was a proper English country pub and I’m glad we stopped by for dinner during our stay at Castle Combe. I am unsure as to why the owners are allegedly ‘racist’ as per some previous reviews. I am a mixed race man and I can honestly say I did not feel as if I was being treated differently nor any undertone of racism. Quite the opposite, and my partner and I were made to feel very welcome by the owners. Sure it’s most likely a ‘locals’ pub but they were more than happy to give us a good experience. Will definitely come again when visiting Castle Combe. 5 stars.

Didn’t have food so can’t rate it. We were staying in the Castle Inn for a weekend break and went to the White Hart to watch the England v Wales 6 nations match. The Guinness was outstanding! The room with the TV was cosy. Enjoyed the match with a fellow Welshman who lives in Castle Combe and other locals and (semi locals - holiday homers). Nice friendly atmosphere and people. But here’s the rub. It is clearly they are tourist weary. I didn’t witness rudeness I’ve read about in other reviews, but I could see the potential in the staff to have low tolerance to unsure tourists. And let’s be honest CC is one of Englands most prolific tourist traps. Stunningly gorgeous, but no longer a hidden gem. I can understand local frustration but for businesses, you can’t bite the hand that feeds either. For us a great experience. My photos are from the village. I’ve digitally erased tourists!

Incredibly hostile and unfriendly staff who are not only rude, but also ignorant and dont have a clue how to run a restaurant.

Lousy Service.

Below average food.

No customer wants to go back here, their only business is from tourists unfortunately trapped in this quiet region with nowhere else to go.

Clear view of kitchen with overflowing rubbish bin.

We went in and as most of the true reviews below, we were ignored. Only after requesting multiple times did the horrid couple take our orders, with the same sour face.

Man and Lady were behind the bar. Man was soooo friendly to an Argentinian woman, but towards us, immediate mood swing to "idgaf" . Fine, gonna give Man the benefit of the doubt .

Unfortunately for us, our taxi arrived at that time (20 minutes earlier than expected). As our food was not served yet and the taxi was our ONLY way back home, we proceded to ask the Lady (I swear I am a highly friendly Asian kid)

"Hi, is our order ready yet? I'm really sorry but unfortunately our ride has arrived, could we have our order to go?"

Lady then ignored us for quite some time (que Taylor Swift's blank space) and returned, telling us "Food's not prepared yet".

Obviously given this situation, i then proceded to ask "Its alright then, is there any way to cancel our order as its not prepared yet?".

Same sour face, new reply "Foods almost here"

-like what?? Serious miscommunication with the kitchen. 20 minutes for a couple of simple sandwiches

We asked "Is there any way to prepare it faster?"

Ignored by Lady

Man then just so happens to overhear conversation, gets triggered and proceeds to scold us "Its not street food, you guys cant rush us, you guys always come in and bam expect it to be done in 5 minutes!!"

Obviously Man wasnt aware of our prior conversation with Lady Man immediately assumed we were rushing them wow, where was Man the whole time?? note the pre conceived bias

We tried explaining our situation, but like a sewer mouse, he just scurried away. Its very difficult to even talk to them. then, with the time ticking we waited for a while longer .Minutes later, our order comes on the plate, just slammed rudely on the counter in front of us.

"Could we have a to go container or bag?" I asked

Man, again oblivious to the situation, didnt even bother telling us the situation, but we only heard him mumbled to Lady "We're out"

note that each conversation, we were standing in front of the bar desperately trying to get their attention.

Ok fine, so we're out of time, nobody is giving two cents about us, so i took the COMPLIMENTARY serviettes to wrap the sandwiches. Man storms out and pushes me away with his forearm "Hey hey, go easy on the tissues!"

We try to tell Man that the whole time we were just trying to have a decent conversation with the couple, that both were ignoring us, but Man just brushed it off and constantly interrupted us with his own "Street food" comment. Even hearing our situation, he replied smugly "Dont care, Dont care! "

note, three of us were there trying to talk nicely to him he just keeps walking past us we didnt even know if he was actually listening or talking to us.

Thats when i had it, this is just too much, i splashed the remaining salad over the bar and walked out. This is the worst service i've seen throughout my 6 months in the UK. Want to br a douche? So be it, we paid already so Good luck cleaning up your retched bar.

Then Man stormed over the counter, GRABBED me by the neck and shoved me out.

He keeps telling me all the while "You, Get Out!!" Not even realising that I was already on my way out.

Outside, Man continued making a ruckus, causing the nearby locals to misjudge us too . He threatened to destroy my tissue-wrapped sandwiches to which i replied "Bro, I paid for this dont you dare"

TL;DR

Dont come here. Take your pictures then leave

Lady is just straight up incompetent, and has the social skills of a doorstop. Man needs to attend customer service and anger...

This was our second visit to this establishment, and unfortunately, it was as unpleasant as the first. On our previous visit to Castle Combe, I came with my wife and daughter and encountered a rude bartender. At the time, I dismissed it as a one-off incident. However, this recent experience proved otherwise.

This time, my wife’s family were visiting from Indonesia, and we were looking forward to a meal together as a group of seven. While my wife was waiting to be served so we could place our order, my elderly father-in-law urgently needed to use the restroom. A woman from the kitchen came out and shouted at him, demanding he order before using the facilities.

While I understand that some visitors may have misused the toilets in the past, our situation was clear – we were already waiting to order food. I intervened and politely explained that my father-in-law genuinely needed the bathroom. Despite this, the woman remained rude and unhelpful.

When I asked her to show some politeness, the bartender barged into the conversation, ignored what I was saying, and mockingly suggested we use a public toilet. When I pressed him further, asking if he didn’t want our custom, he continued to pretend I wasn’t speaking.

As someone who considers themselves as much a part of this country as anyone else, I couldn’t help but feel that the bartender’s behaviour was rooted in prejudice. Perhaps I didn’t fit the appearance he was comfortable with. This was outright discrimination, and it left my family feeling humiliated and unwelcome.

Refusing access to a restroom for an elderly man, even when food was about to be ordered, is not only morally indefensible but may also violate the Equality Act. Such behaviour not only impacts individuals but also tarnishes the reputation of Castle Combe and Wiltshire. A glance at their Google reviews shows a worrying trend of complaints from tourists and visitors.

To the management and owners of this establishment, if you make certain patrons feel welcome, congratulations – you value their custom. However, for everyone else, it seems we are of no concern to you. Discrimination has no place in our society, and I will be taking this matter up with Wiltshire Council, local councillors, and, if necessary, through legal channels.

Update: Complaints have been made to Wiltshire Council and South Cotswolds MP, Dr Roz Savage. I have instructed my lawyers, who will take appropriate action. I cannot remain silent, and modern Britain will never accept such ideologies. As someone who works and promotes Britain across the world, it is disheartening to witness this behaviour. They should learn their lesson.

After reading comments online, it is evident that this establishment is run by a husband-and-wife team. I have reviewed your business on Companies House, which is shown as dissolved, meaning you must be operating under a different name, director, or as sole traders. Regardless, I will ensure that justice is served for the misery you have caused me and countless others.

You will face justice in court unless you issue a public apology to me and all others who have suffered at your establishment. Furthermore, I demand an undertaking that you will comply with the Equality Act 2010 and cease such unacceptable behaviour immediately.

Without such actions, I will ensure this matter proceeds to court, where I am confident that justice will prevail.

Update 2: Complaint has been made to Wiltshire Police. All others who have been racially discriminated by this establishment, please file a complaint online with Wiltshire Police so that these types of attitudes are not allowed to prevail in...

Crikey! I've never met a pub landlord so rude! So bad that it's almost laughable. Let me explain with a little story...

We came into the pub with my wife for a quick bite to eat on a cold winter's day. The pub was mostly empty (never a good sign) but then it was just coming up to 2pm, so naturally should be a tad quieter. Stood at the bar for ten minutes waiting to be served. Eventually the chap came out, I queried if they're still serving food and he grunted a bit back to me. He then asked where we were sat. I replied that I think my wife has sat down around the corner. "Are you on a 2 seat table or a 4 seat table?" he barked back. Unsure the answer I simply replied "I don't know! Its whatever my wife has sat at, there is plenty of tables though".

I ordered a ham sandwich, a packet of crisps, a glass of juice and a glass of tap water. Except he seemed so preoccupied with him worrying that we are sat on a 4 seat table he got our order wrong. It took a couple of attempts to explain that we wanted a ham sandwich, not ham, egg & chips.

After we managed to get this figured out, he suddenly remarked that "the table in that corner will be free shortly you can move there on that 2 seat table". I looked to where he was pointing to see a couple with a young child, the father slowly enjoying his half full pint and the mother cuddling her child.

At this point I just wanted our food and be left in peace. So I asked if I could pay. He loudly remarked "CASH OR CARD?". Card I said. There you go, as he thrusts the card reader into my arm. I tapped my contactless card, relieved that this will be over shortly.

Except it wasn't. Of course he wasn't done with the table thing. "I'll ask these people to start moving now. I'm not having someone sit on a four seat table for only a single sandwich".

My fight or flee instincts kicked in at this point. Except I'm very much a fleer. So I scuttled off away from the bar, leaving with the final remark of "Don't worry we won't be long!". I honestly did consider turning around at this point, demand a refund and just get out of there. Except my tummy did a little grumble to remind me on the reason we were there in the first place.

Arriving at my table, I looked around to see 4 empty tables around me - all four seater tables. My wife was sat at a two seat table all along.

Incidentally the sandwiches were quite nice. But then admittedly it's quite hard to mess up stuffing a slice of ham between two bits of white bread. The young chap running around serving the food was pleasant enough - just looked a bit embarrassed working there.

I dread to think what those other poor staff have to put up with. I honestly have no idea why he's like it? Reading the other reviews, it appears to be a...
