After reading a lot about Captain Hanks, crab and snack shack in some publications and on social media so I decided to make a special trip down today. I’m Cornish born and bread and I’m passionate about food. I also held UK braai champion. (yes, I’m a Food junkie) and this boy can cook… I decided to order crispy cockles popcorn, halloumi fries and coconut cod cheek tacos. After placing my order, I sat on dockside, drinking one of Holly‘s lovely apple juices, and then indulged in a coffee, the atmosphere here was lovely. Great music playing in the background families enjoying themselves whilst eating (great seeing kids trying and enjoying sea food!) and couples enjoying an alcoholic beverage with their food. after 12 to 15 minutes The food was ready. What can I say about the food? Absolutely out of this world!!! fresh local sea food with fantastic taste explosions !! and in no way greasy at all, everything cooked perfection… I will be coming back for more from Hanks menu!! Congratulations holly for creating such fantastic local street food at very sensible price and all this with friendly staff and fantastic atmosphere…. If i could give you more than 5 stars i would as personally i think your food is better than some of the top sea food restaurants...
Read moreMy wife and I visited Captain Hank's Crab and Snack Shack for brunch whilst calling in to Fowey. The "Shack" is located on the river side of North Street near the RNLI station with views out onto the River Fowey. Access to it is by foot or by boat. All dining is at the four or so tables outside. The menu is limited and is not for you if you are looking for a sausage sandwich. Instead it is a quality supplier of fresh fish (and crab) sandwiches in a choice of granary or white bread. We went for a crab sandwich and a "fish finger" sandwich. Both were freshly prepared and superb! The crab is in a mayonaise with dill butter and the catch "fish finger" sandwich was large chunks of hot, fresh, fried, breaded coley (cod family). We washed these down with a latte (£3) and a capuccino (£3) which were great too. The total bill was £29. In my opinion to charge such prices for sandwiches served outdoors in cardboard 'crockery' it has to be good but don't worry it was excellent, with top class service too. I'm disappointed that I didn't take photos but we will be back as we are local to Fowey and I'll add photos on...
Read moreFowey a lovely seaside town was busy today. so we strolled away towards the life boat. What a find - situated overlooking the sea was this converted old fashioned delivery van selling a great selection of local ales and juices. The menu was mostly fish with a halloumi veggie wrap as an alternative which my daughter loved. I had lemon sole fillets and my husband a white crab meat sandwich. We had some wild garlic and Parmesan fries which were very tasty. The service was quick, everything cooked fresh and presented nicely in cardboard trays and wooden cutlery. I loved the thought that had gone into the menu, the effort to reduced waste and the helping save the environment with recycling bins for cans, bottles, cardboard and food waste. This was a hidden gem and for freshly prepared food that was good quality it was worth every penny. I forgot to leave tip and I am really sorry I didn’t, because the young ladies in the van were very polite, smiley and accommodating. I would skip the main town and head to Hanks if you like fresh fish that’s uncomplicated and doesn’t cost too much. Thanks for. Lovely lunch...
