Popped to the Catherine's Inn as I have done many times before but tonight's experience was awful. Arrived with my partner at 6.03pm and chose our food within a few minutes. I went to the till to order and noticed 6 people waiting on one side with one person serving so I thought I'd try the other side of the bar where I also found 1 person serving with 4 people waiting... I waited as you would ... but the lady on the till seemed to be on the go-slow... disappearing for an age to sort a glass of wine and what looked like a juice or cocktail pitcher... she then served the people in front of me which again took an age ... then .. just as I was about to order she looked at a man at the other end of the bar (who had arrived after me) and asked if I minded if she served him first ... I said that's fine .. however I got the sense she was doing it anyway. By the time she got to me I had literally forgotten the table number and part of the order (at this point I had been waiting between 15 and 20 mins to get served!) In a perfectly calm and soft voice I remarked about this and straight away she was on the defensive saying that she could only go so fast (but they weren't packed or that busy at the time) and then proceeded to TRY and talk me down even though I remained very calm and continued to try and point out the obvious customer service issue .. but the more I tried the more she climbed.. eventually she started to tell me she didn't like my attitude and "did I want to cancel my order?" and each time I kept saying "no.. if you'll let me I'm trying to finish my order". She carried on until I said about speaking to the manager and she said that's me ... so I asked for her name as I wasn't a fan of the customer service and she said it was Sue... she then said she was cancelling my order as she wasn't a fan of my attitude (again an attitude that wasn't there). While this was going on I noticed that a queue had formed behind me and I looked up at 'Sue' who I spotted was unfortunately playing to the audience behind me ... I pointed this out as well and she didn't like that truth either ... customer service truly out of the window as she tried to make herself look better and me look like an idiot... after telling me I should leave and take my money elsewhere I walked away and as I did I heard her talking to the customers behind me and one of them applauded ... to which I turned round and said "well done Sue.. you got the audience you so desired" and she shouted back "it wasn't me it was this lady" .... unbelievable!!
I collected my partner and left ... it was slightly humorous that she didn't know why we were going (although she commented on how long we had waited!)
A truly awful manager who needs some more customer service training... sadly I won't go there anymore as I wasn't that fussed anyway as id previously noticed that the quality of the food and prices and customer service has taken a massive dive anyway.
I don't often complain about eating out because most of the time you get what you pay for but if anyone wants a free slanging match with their chocolate fudge cake then give Sue at the Catherine's Inn a try .. you WILL be disappointed!
If I could have given minus stars...
Read moreA distinctly downmarket and mediocre offering this evening at the Hungry Horse at Catherine's Inn near Weston-super-Mare. We walked in and were not acknowledged for a while, then told to sit where we liked and order on the app or at the counter. Don't do apps so did the counter but presumably they prefer the app as it lessens the need for contact with customers. Had to carry our own drinks to the table and make two trips as a jug of water was involved. Mocktails are served in chunky Coke glasses which is not really attractive and "Passionfruit Cooler" was just J2O and lemonade.
Food was delivered far to quickly to be fresh cooked to order.
Hubby opted for the lamb kofta salad on flatbread which was passable but the bread impossible to cut or rip. A mixed grill seemed like a good idea but it was quite average, egg overcooked, chicken breast dry (suspect steamed in advance then flashed on the grill), steak dreadful, cheap breaded onion rings and peas like bullets. When it arrived I had to ask for a different steak knife as both sides of the handle were loose on the blade. And they didn't notice?? The whole place including furniture and tableware is tired and dated and staff disinterested.
Nobody came around to check if everything was OK, and when she whisked the plates away there was still no conversation or would we like a dessert. No we wouldn't. We left and won't be returning. We are not tourists who are there once and gone but new residents to the area searching out nice places to eat. ...
Read moreI don’t usually have any issues here, but today I went for my father-in-law’s 70th birthday and was a bit disappointed. We ordered at the bar, and after telling the lady all of our food and drinks we asked for a receipt and for a bowl of water for the dogs, and she said sure. After getting our drinks, she then proceeded to go and serve another customer without getting us the dog bowl or receipt. I had to go round the other side of the bar to get her and ask for the receipt, and in all fairness she then apologised for forgetting the receipt, but she said we would have to wait until she served everyone else until we got the dog bowl. I don’t get this logic….. as surely it’s no different to me asking for a glass of tap water for myself? It just didn’t make sense to me. They also didn’t have a couple of their desserts available, which I thought was strange for a not so busy Thursday, as I could understand if it was a busy weekend day, but oh well. The service speed was quite disappointing, as it took quite a while for our plates to be cleared and for us to get our desserts. We maybe waited 40mins between our main courses...
