Wonderful boozer full of character and with four rooms each with a different vibe. The managers are very hospitable: Amy and Sean. Choice of ales was Cameron Strongarm - very much an acquired taste, and not one I ever acquired - Marston Pedigree and Hobgoblin. I went for the Pedigree. Didn’t eat. Not sure food on on New Year’s Eve. Although I lived in the Pool until the age of 18 this is not a pub I ever knew. Worked in two as a student: the Grange (terrible - punch ups every Saturday night - and the Red Lion at Dalton Piercy - very pleasant out of town boozer where people mainly came for meals and no trouble makers as you had to drive there. Lovely bar staff too. Anyway back this boozer. It seems like a nice place. Lots of character and great managers. As MacArthur said, I shall return.

**December 2024** new lines added since lovely refurbishment - added pics. Cask ale lovers _ 50% reduction Tuesday on lovely pint of strongarm and all cask ales each Tuesday. Jukebox great choice of tunes to pick from. Bar staff all very lovely including the landlord ! Difficult to find a reason to complain, especially with the hidden but delightful beer garden out the back. For pool lovers there is a table here too!

I no longer live in the town. (No longer live in the country!) But whenever I come back to visit, I always enjoy the Causeway. I’m always amused by the ā€˜banker’ pints with the distinctive ice-cream head. Great beer too! The two rooms are really nice places to spend a couple of hours. I’ll be back again next time I’m in town.

Hello, Sean. I hate giving such a low star genuinely but I didn't have a great time. When I came in the bloke seemed distracted at the side and was looking after a small child. We didn't realise he was working as there didn't look to be anyone at the bar. I have no problems with kids in pubs but it just didn't sit well with me that a child was playing about on the gambling machine (no money in it). I went off to the side area and 4 lads were just constantly swearing so loudly that I couldn't hear the other person speak and they were vaping all of them indoors and the smell of whatever they were having was too much for me. It just wasn't a pleasant experience. I can see that people do enjoy this pub, but it just wasn't my cup of tea. I don't want...

Good beers, though if you want cask ale you'll be limited to the usual suspects, which is a little disappointing when it proudly advertises "Fine Ales Since 1862". The pint I did have was well kept though so no stars lost. Lots of smaller rooms and nooks which is ideal for groups. Friendly service and dog friendly. The courtyard is excellent (albeit for the extremely loud extractor fans of the building next door) and a welcome retreat from roadside tables. Worth a visit if you're visiting. In response to the comments from the pub, the fans aren't an issue, just worth a mention :) Still five stars and well worth the visit. Thanks for the...
