Visited here a few months ago, loved it SO much, decided to visit again to celebrate a birthday. The staff were all polite but not remotely attentive. Service was extremely poor / food mediocre. Ordered Chapters Chicken with a side of veg. Veg arrived when the meal was practically eaten, despite us asking for it 3 times. Ordered Katsu Chicken with a side of fries. Fries arrived when meal was just about finished. Again, asked for the fries (with veg for 1st meal) 3 times. Ordered Salmon fillet which came with 2 (!) tiny new potatoes and veg which was completely tasteless and the salmon was extremely small and so over-cooked!! When side orders eventually did arrive - we were offered apologies for the delay, saying staff in the kitchen were extremely stressed today (!) - not all tables were occupied so I'm assuming a staff shortage? We were not charged for the two side orders.
Husband ordered another large Americano - a small one arrived! During our meal, nobody came to ask if anymore drinks were required.
Upon departure, we were asked if everything was okay. I replied no, thinking I would be asked what the issue was perhaps. The response was simply, sorry about that (so no learning then!).
Honestly, the staff could not have been more polite if they had tried - but the birthday celebration at Chapters was just a bit flat I'm afraid. I'm not sure I would visit again after today - but if I did, I really would hope for it to be as good as previous visit.
Sorry if this review is negative but it is a true and honest opinion of our...
Read moreBooked afternoon tea as a treat. We arrived and seemed lovely place, nice booth, nice atmosphere. Then a young waiter came over and asked what we wanted to drink. Said its only tea or coffee. Fine, we ordered tea for 3. A small teapot and 3 cups arrived (managed to pour out 2 and a half cups) and he said what do we want to eat. Had to pick 1 choice of filling for sandwich, pick 1 cake and 1 scone flavour. He then said he couldn't remember what fillings there were, said he thinks there's some salmon left and ham so then he said he would have to go ask and get shouted at by kitchen?! What? Now correct me if wrong but afternoon tea you usually get a small selection of sandwiches and a few small cakes? Me, my mum and daughter had been looking forward to this and felt like we had made a big mistake. He then avoided us like the plague and didn't return to our table. When he eventually did he said do you still want to go ahead with it with such an attitude. We were nothing but nice but that made me so angry. I went to the bar to speak to someone who knew what they were doing to be told they would take over from him. By this time me and my elderly mum were not in the mood for staying and being made to feel we were a problem just for expecting afternoon tea. We left. So shocked as never had this experience before when going for afternoon tea. Chapters deli....you don't know what an afternoon tea is so don't bother. Also on a busy saturday don't have two 14 year old schoolboys waiting on alone. Very...
Read moreThis is a place me and my family have visited a lot of times and always really enjoyed. I visited recently and was left disappointed to be honest. As there was a group of us we pre ordered our food, on the menu it has the Deli Burger which sounded lovely and it said gluten free option was available. So I ordered a gluten free burger, expecting it to be the exact same as described but just a nice gluten free bun however it came out with 2 slices of hard bread which was impossible to eat and looked a mess. I was looking forward to this all week so felt really disappointed. Just because someone has a gluten intolerance doesn’t mean they don’t deserve a well put together meal, I was actually embarrassed at the state of it. I didn’t like to kick up a fuss but it really isn’t good enough, you can easily get nice gluten free buns especially when someone has ordered in advance you should be prepared. Sadly won’t be in a rush to return now. Staff are lovely and service was good but the food...
