Ah Chickie One, where did it go wrong?

What was once a delicious, cost effective alternative than the peri peri experts Nandos, has since lost its way. Living too far from our local Roosters or Nandos, Chickie One had become our go to for peri chicken and for a long time it was amazing! Ask us a year ago and I would have told you Chickie One was worth every penny. The takeout got worse over time. We noticed delivery was scatty and food was often cooked through, but under grilled. The worst part was the peri chicken flavours which were tangy and chemically tasting.

It's since been shut for 6 months and they've oftered 20% off deal for their grand reopening! Sounds like a good opportunity to try the new and improved! It's was actually such a disappointment, to the point we didn't even finish our meal this time. 1/2 Chicken had come straight out of the oven draw, no grilling at all! This made it fatty and unappealing. The sauce it was "cooked in" was watery and flavourless. Full of squishy fat is a clear indication of poor quality chicken. My wife had the wrap with dry, chewy chicken and the mash was salty and bland. Sweet potato flies were soggy but we managed to crisp them up in the oven and were actually the best part of the whole meal.

All in all, it's shame. I love independent chicken shops but Chickie One seems to have lost its way. Just terrible food. Save your money and energy and get your peri chicken from a more...

Food here is out of this world. Delicious! Gorden Ramsay could never. I order here every day. As I'm not much of a meat person, I tend to order chips and onion rings. Chips are never a let down, normal ones and sweet fries. The perfect amount of crisp and always comes hot. Mozerella fingers, crispy and warm. I spend at least five minutes smelling them as they smell delicious! Onion rings, crispy and full of taste! I love the new wallpaper. Much more fun to look at when the parents won't let you on the phone. Chicken nuggets crispy and delicious! Homemade sauce made specially via blender with natural ingredients. Been here a few times as we are quite local. It's mainly a takeaway/delivery establishment but has tables inside for eating options. We have always found it very good value. Less than £10 a head for half chicken,chips, coleslaw, halloumi and a coke and a sauce. The food is clean, fresh and tasty. The staff are always very attentive. Highly recommended we will...
