Disappointing service for a special occasion. Booked afternoon tea (or thought I had) for Valentine’s Day, only to turn up and be told I hadn’t booked it properly and should have called to pay a deposit. There was no mention of this on the website or the afternoon tea menu (I have just rechecked the entire website and have attached photos of the menu which I was told on the day did have instructions for how to book - which it clearly didn’t). the website was unclear and poorly designed , but did clearly state they offered afternoon tea from Tuesday to Saturday, 12-2pm, and they offer online booking, so I booked a table on a date and at a time which afternoon tea was advertised as being served, and even included a note on my booking to point out that it was for afternoon tea. Given that I booked 3-4 days in advance, even if my booking was unknowingly placed through the wrong method , I would have expected that if a deposit was needed beforehand, that someone would have checked my booking and called me before I arrived and was disappointed. When I arrived I was told that because I didn’t call to book, and no deposit was paid, that I should order something else instead. I was offered a burger menu…enough said. This was very disappointing given that it was booked in advance and no requirement for booking by phone or paying a deposit was mentioned until the day. Unfortunately it isn’t the first time I’ve had bad service here either. Be wary. It’s a decent enough place for a beer but not for a special occasion or anything more important.

First visit for a Sunday lunch. Lovely place very busy and received a very warm and convivial welcome. Sunday lunch good with good portions, food could have been way hotter. But "nice" all the same.

I paid the bill. When the party decided to work out costs to divvy up who owed what, we spotted an error regarding the costs charged for the lunch with extra meat, an option that costs £2.50 for 3 additional meats - as we were advised. To cut a long story short we were over charged by approx £4.20. Not a huge amount but an over charge nonetheless. We didn't challenge as we couldn't quite work out the bill. However as we had asked to see the menu again to check costs the waitress obviously anticipated a problem. When the waitress arrived and asked us was there an issue, we explained our misunderstanding of the prices quoted on the menu. Straightaway they knew there was an issue explaining that we were being charged "new menu prices" rather than those quoted on the menu which was not made clear. Happily a quick check confirmed no other errors. But until challenged this change was not communicated to us and when we did seek an explanation were advised that they knew they had over charged us and did we want out money back. In all honesty it's four quid but it's my hard earned money not theirs. In a very busy pub with lots of covers this seemingly erroneous price difference could have netted the pub upwards of £100 if they charged others in the same way.

Also discovered that we've also been overcharged for Guinness and we believe served alcoholic Guinness and not Guiness Zero for the designated drivers in our group. Might have been hard to explain that away if we'd have been pulled over by the Police. Appalling error.

Very disappointing on what was a celebratory occasion. That they knew they were overcharging and this seemed to be a known...

My partner and kids went for a meal for his birthday. We didn’t have any reservations and we didn’t call. But when we called there the dining area was empty just a table so we were greeted and sit down on one of the tables with food menus.Fast forward we order our drinks this is around 6pm and we got served the drinks. After about 20 minutes cause we were waiting for our order to be taking regards the food a blond woman which apparently was the manager came to our table and asked us to finish our drinks and get out(literally that’s what she said to get out) because apparently all the tables are reserved and they can’t serve us food.We weren’t the only table that been asked to leave was another table that came after us.I found this very rude because if they didn’t have any tables available they should of told us from the beginning and not sat us down and 30 min later to kick us out.Another thing is that they say child friendly or whatever but is no kids menu and when I asked about kids food I was told is only what is on the menu but I found it hard to find something that my 3 year old can eat.The menu doesn’t have lots of choices even for me as an adult was lots of fish which I don’t eat steak, salad and pork belly and a vegetarian hamburger and normal one.We will definitely not going to go back after how rude we were treated and I will definitely not recommend to anybody.Shame that was so much money invested to have staff that don’t communicate and are rude.PS I hope the manager is not the owner cause she has no customer service...
