Tonight myself and my sister in law decided to come for food. We understand that the staff were very busy. However, from the moment we sat down we weren't given the welcoming hospitality we hoped for. As we were ordering our food, I had asked for a burger of which the waitress failed to tell us wasn't available. The attitude from the waitress was not welcoming and very much unapproachable. This made us both feel on edge.
Once the food had arrived, not far from 1 minute, the waitress asked if we'd like sauces, we declined politely but pointed out that a side was missing. The waitress accused us of not ordering this then stormed off to the kitchen. Thankfully, our side came not long after.
We noticed that we were short-changed of fries but understood they were busy so decided to leave it. However, at the end of the meal, we were asked if everything was okay with our meals... anxiously (due to the waitress stomping round, being blunt and not being approachable) I replied by explaining that my chicken was pink. The waitress asked me in an unpolite manner if it was cold. I responded by explaining that I hadn't tried it, due to it being slightly raw. We then had to wait a lengthy period before being able to ask for the bill as the waitress then avoided us. Once we asked for the bill, we asked to split it as there was two of us. We were then demanded to go to the bar.
During tonight's experience, we felt very uncomfortable and as if we weren't welcome to dine here. We aren't saying we definitely won't be coming back, just that we leave been put off...
Read moreSuch a great view and close to home. Unfortunately the last few times we were there we had terrible experiences. Reading the latest reviews. Itâs clear thereâs an issue in the kitchen. Awful food. Super slow service. I mean super super slow. 2 times we never got our food at all. I find the managers responses to negative reviews quite alarming. Zero accountability, arrogance and excuses will not make your business successful. My husband said it used to be the best pub in Shrewsbury and itâs sad that itâs never busy anymore. Ownership reflects the business. If youâre looking for a great view of the river. Prompt service and great food. Check out the Boat House.
Nick. You are a pathetic excuse for a manager. Your google reviews are 4.1 and falling every single day. Your manners are atrocious. And dissing my husband makes you a pathetic small man. I would like to see you say that to his face. Would be quite funny. Not a UK hating American. A crown hating Canadian. Your business is pathetic. Business has not doubled. We live right by you and you are never busy. Other than serving under aged teens which we have witnessed every time we have been there. Keep up the great work. Quite brave hiding behind google. Lol
I also see youâve removed your nasty response to me. Donât worry. I took a screen shot. Itâs on my phone for everyone to see. â my sheep of a husbandâ is...
Read moreWe visit the Belle Vue area of Shrewsbury regularly, as my mum lives there. The Coleham Tap is the nearest dining pub, and we've enjoyed several meals there over the last few years. This last weekend, my husband and I called in for a drink on Sunday afternoon, and also after a walk into town on the Monday, followed by coming in that evening for an early dinner with my mum.
From the minute you walk in the door, you feel at home and welcome (not always the case in pubs). The staff were friendly, helpful and attentive and the food was spot on.
We also observed the exceptional kindness of the chap behind the bar on the Sunday (possibly the landlord?) It was late afternoon, and an older couple came in who looked like they had been walking. They wanted food but the pub had stopped serving for the day, but this chap was so lovely to them. We couldn't hear what was being said precisely, but it seemed obvious he was recommending how to find places in the town centre to eat at that time on a Sunday. I suspect they were too tired to face the walk, because the chap then called a taxi for them!
I am pretty certain the same couple came in to eat on the Monday evening, sat beside us. They were American and walking the Severn river. If I'm correct, I truly hope they appreciated the kindness and hospitality they were shown while over here!
Highly recommend the Coleham Tap on...
