Another Pugin masterpiece sadly Augustus Welby passed away before work started but his son Edward Wellby Pugin was more than competent enough to carry out the work . It was completed in the Gothic Revival style in 1856 having taken a mere 4 years to build . Built within the main meander of the River Severn it is smaller than first planned but still quite lovely. Sadly the main alter was blocked off the day I visited for conservation work but u personally am pleased to have made the effort and got here . It is as are most Pugin works calming and quite beautiful...

Why was the entrance sign still in place when it could have been removed until the works completed. Very sad and very disappointed. Thank you for your reply. However I do not accept the Cathedral website or Google were giving the closure...

Adjoining is a lovely cafe/bistro, newly opened with plenty of inside and outside space, serving very good coffee and home made meals and snacks- worth a visit...
