I've emailed Henry Tudor the below and it's been a week without them replying or even acknowledging my message:
Long story short, food was bad, burgers were undercooked and we found a literal woodscrew in one of the dishes. However the bar man was nice.
Hi Henry Tudor
I have visited you every Tuesday now for the past 5 weeks as part of the Happy Parents happy baby classes on the top floor. And it's been great, on the whole
In particular your main guy at the bar. Chatty with glasses (Calls people my sweet) Has been consistently lovely every time we have visited he is a real credit to you and he is the only reason I haven't jumped straight onto Google to leave a reveiw after last night
Last night (Tuesday 29th July arrived at 1900) was our social and yes there was quite a few of us I think 12 people eating. Started off perfectly well accomated in where we were sat, said barman was patient with us while we were chatting and weren't ready to order
All was well until the food arrived. 4 of the pregnant women had ordered the burger and of course specified it to be well done, as per NHS guidelines for pregnant women however all 3 arrived rare inside.
This was frustrating as the rest of us had our food. The barman was nice about it and took them away to be re-made however this took 20-30 minutes so they didn't get their food until after the rest of us had finished eating. My partner was the 4th Burger and at first inspection all looked okay however she found when she got half way through it (eating it with a knife and fork as didn't have the bun) she also found some rare meat. It was too late by this point to get this one replaced. Said nice barman discounted all the burgers by 50% without us having to complain which was nice
Now the above was frustrating but no major concern compared to what happened next. Another of the women had the gnocchi, she very luckily noticed there was a wood screw included in her dish. Around 15mm long. If she had swallowed this she could have choked, or even worse could have potentially damaged her internally not something you would want to happen any time but especially whilst pregnant. I dread to think what could have happened if a child had been served this meal
Said barman was nice about it of course and took the meal off the bill however his response of it must have come in the packet of gnocchi felt a little like shirking responsibility.
I personally had the sausage and mash which is a dish I usually love. However this one tasted overly salty and the sausage was either of a poor quality or badly cooked. The skin was overly hard and crusty. Not sure what you did to the mash but it tasted a bit like instant mash, I'd imagine and hope it wasn't but that's how it tasted.
The fish and chips ordered by another of the women at first glance looked nice however on commencement of eating the batter was soft and oily like it had been fried in a rush before the oil was fully up to temp. Which would make sense as it arrived after everything else.
Two of the guys enjoyed their food however. The sea trout and the vegetarian filo they both said was very nice.
I just wanted to let you know about this as it does not seem to be up to the standard we are used to at Joules pubs. I would come back for a drink for sure as the place it's self and the barman was lovely. However I don't plan on ever eating...
Read moreI have been here for two meals recently, with similar findings. The starter portions are a little small, the main course plates a little cool and the wait for service is too long. The overall standard of the meals is reasonable, but not as sensational as the surroundings might lead you to expect. Not one of our group thought their meal was bad, but each person commented that the overall taste was a little 'bland' and 'unimaginative'. Lacking something to elevate it above some of Shropshire's other 'gastro-pubs'. I don't really understand this, because the place is supposed to have a top chef. If that's the case, how can a £20 steak come out garnished with a stone cold mushroom and a 'Provencale' tomato that is basically a slice of tomato with some green powder (out of a packet?) sprinkled on it? The drink (beer in my case) was again OK, but not as perfectly kept as it should be, in a place like this. The venue itself is absolutely stunning, dating back to the 1400s, but benefiting from a recent high quality make-over, which achieves the seemingly impossible, by being both sympathetic to the age of the building but also quirky and modern. The (ever changing) external LED lighting that softly highlights the half timbered frame against the mediaeval cobbles below is a master stroke. There is real history to be had here - this is the inn that Henry Tudor reportedly stayed at, before leaving for the battle of Bosworth, where he defeated and killed Richard III (of recent 'dug up' fame) and was crowned Henry VII. I've given a 'good' score overall, because this venue ticks nearly every box, with a truly first class building and wonderful atmosphere . However, it has the potential to be so much better. With a little bit of work, some attention to detail and some more culinary flair, Henry Tudor House could easily go on to become the best pub / restaurant destination in town. I really hope the owners address the issues raised by myself and many other people (see TripAdvisor) because the potential for this place is huge. It really could be...
Read moreI organised an office lunch for 12 people a week in advance with pre-orders sent 4 days before so that there won't be any delays or surprises. Unfortunately, we ended up walking out from the restaurant as the food was late by more than 55 minutes! We had to take our food to go, after the staff managed to find last minute take away boxes and being told the meals were being plated 20 minutes ago. Adding insult to injury, two of the meals were half portions. Which I can only assume the kitchen/chef had a nightmare of a day. The attitude of how we were misled was very demeaning, condescending and outright deflective of the problems occurring in the kitchen. Being told that we were in the wrong for everything. When confronted with our frustrations we were told that we were late to arrive, the food was ready and on the way, the half portions were the correct portions. Firstly, we were on time. Second, we could clearly see the portion sizes on other tables beforehand. Lastly, they claimed they had an influx of three full tables at the same time. What is the point of booking a week before, with meal pre-orders then? The two staff on the day couldn't confront us after all what happened and offered us the food for free, which was the only saving grace. We wouldn't expect less at that point while standing at the door waiting for our food. The man on service that day did not apologies once, which at least his lady colleague did. It's unfortunate not to be honest with your customers and say that they were understaffed or unprepared but rather making an excuse that we were the problem led to a very distasteful experience. We have been going for office lunches for the past 6 years in town and this is a first! Joules need to make some changes in attitude and service for large groups. Because the HT Inn is a lovely venue and I frequent it often for drinks and it's very sad to see...
