It's the very first time I'd ever been to the Corner Grill House and it certainly won't be the last... INCREDIBLE!! I wanted to try a steak place in York, before heading home. I had looked up another, but decided on this one instead. For some reason, I went to the wrong one (me not paying attention!) So I began to make my way to the Corner Grill House and rang up, to let them know I'd be running late, being informed by one of the ladies on the phone, who was very pleasant, that this wasn't a problem at all. Finally made it and stepping inside, the atmosphere was superb and the restaurant itself was very clean and spacious. When I went, there were very few people in which was nice, as it meant it wasn't too busy or noisy. I was greeted by a friendly member of staff, and shown to my table. I had time to look over the menu, before deciding on what to have. One of the waitresses who came over to take my order, was kind enough to tell me about the two and three course options, with me possibly having a dessert. However, I wanted to try the truffle and parmesan fries, so decided to give those set meals a miss this time. I ended up going for the 8 oz Bravette steak, with the truffle and parmesan fries, along with a side order of garlic sautéed king prawns and a blue cheese sauce. While waiting for my food, I was admiring all the wine bottles lined up and the "olive tree" decoration, fabulous decor!

When the food came out... WOW! I was super impressed. You get a LOT for your money, that's for sure! At first, I winced a little at £8.00 for a side of the garlic sautéed king prawns, thinking I'd only be getting about five or six. Oh no no, there were PLENTY of king prawns, so the £8.00 price is well-justified in my opinion!! The steak was a pretty big piece, a nice chunk with flavour, alongside the flavourful truffle and parmesan fries. There was also half a tomato and a red onion, which came as standard with the steaks. It was delicious from the very first bite, right down to the last. I was hoping to have tried one of their desserts, but the food was super filling so didn't need one in the end! The only thing was, that my steak could have been done a little bit more, as it was a bit more red than I normally have it. However it was a tasty piece of steak nonetheless, and worth the price. Speaking of, all that came to £46.53 which, in my opinion, is damn good value for money considering all that I had. There is a discretionary 10% service charge, which was added to the bill. But I didn't mind that at all, as the waitresses earned it giving excellent customer service and the chefs, serving up delicious food. I'm sure if you didn't want this added, the staff would take it off for you though, no problem.

What I wanted to point out, was how friendly and supportive all the staff seemed, towards a new waitress that was learning the ropes. They seemed really encouraging and helpful, which is how it should be, so hats off to them for their professionalism and creating a great working environment!

I'll definitely be returning to the Corner Grill House and HIGHLY recommend to anyone, looking for a good steak while in York... You won't be...

What an outstanding evening, my fiancé and I were in York for the night and decided before we even came to town we wanted to try your "life changing steak experience". Boy were we in for a treat, the server we had (I'm sorry I didn't get her name) was absolutely lovely, from the moment we walked through the door she greeted us with a smile and was extremely pleasant, friendly and knowledgable about each dish. The food was brought in a good time, the starters we had were the mixed grill and the creamy mushrooms, when I bit in to the mustard chicken I made a noise and my fiancé said "I've never heard you make that noise from chicken before" haha. It was delicious and not overpowered with mustard which I had worried about beforehand, the steak on there was cooked beautifully and the salad was just the right amount, you even supplied me with some fried bread to dip in my fiancé's mushroom sauce, top marks for that as its usually the other way round.

Then came the steaks, my fiancé had the fillet and I had the 60 day salt aged rib eye. WOW. That's all I can say. It has to be tried to be believed, it was so flavourful and cooked to perfection. Your chefs truly are chefs and not just kitchen assistants, as with so many places these days.

We have already been looking at when we can make another trip to York just so we can sample some other delights from your menu.

Thank you all so much for a truly wonderful evening. We...

We are here in York for a couple of days with my Sister in law and Brother in law. We visited the Corner Grill House last night and had the 3 course set menu which was £30 each. Our relatives had the ox's cheek and we opted for a steak with side dishes of creamed leeks and honey glazed carrots. Everything was delicious, in fact we all agreed that even though we eat out quite often in various locations, this was up there with the very best of meals we'd ever had in a restaurant including much higher priced ones like the Ivy at London, Brighton and Exeter or the Hard Rock Cafe in London which we've been to a few times. their Garlic Mushrooms were amazing!!!!! Without doubt the best we've ever tasted. The steaks were tasty and done to perfection and the lemon tart with raspberry sauce was also superb! Finally no perfect dining experience is complete without the waiting staff and Emma was excellent, smiley, personable and very efficient in taking our initial orders and our drinks orders. Quality classy staff do make a difference and she was exactly that. As you can probably guess we would all highly recommend you visit the Corner Grill House to sample for yourself this perfect...

I have to add this but please take no notice of the review just below this from the person who felt the need to complain about their meal/s. We had to endure sitting next to them but we laughed it off as we just couldn’t relate any of it to our experience!! The staff couldn’t do enough to ensure they were having a nice meal but some people can never be pleased! (Their food can’t of been that bad as there was nothing left on their plates!) Moving onto my review! The place was pretty busy for a Wednesday night, good crowded atmosphere when we walked in. We ordered the chilli prawns to start which where excellent and I have to say the waiting on staff where brilliant and very attentive, probably the best I’ve come across in a long time (since covid changed the face of eating out to some degree!) We then shared the 20oz T bone steak with three sides as a main. My only point to note would be the chips did taste a little dry and “frozen style”. But the steak, glazed carrots and garlic mushrooms were perfect! Home made tripple cooked chips would have been perfect. But not enough to knock a star off for though as the steak was superb. Thanks for a lovely meal!

It's a nice place, not extortionately expensive and the food is good though not great. This place obviously gets good reviews and I suppose that left us little disappointed in the food. The starters were both ok, 6/10. The steak was also ok. We went to flat iron in London recently and their steak was both nicer and cheaper, so I'm really judging against that. I opted for the mash, which was nice but not very smooth. Having tried the chips they were definitely the better option. The red wine sauce was great but it was the dessert that was the star, the apples in the apple crumble were just the right softness and I have to say its one of the nicest apple crumbles I've ever had. The drinks menu was a little limited on the cocktail front and the margarita was very heavily salted, almost like drinking the sea at times. All in all a nice restaurant, but one that left us slightly underwhelmed. It is quite small, so I would book in advance.
