Upon entering we were not greeted by staff or given any attention eventhough we were the only customers in front of the counter, no one was waiting, and no one was coming behind us, staff were too busy chatting. There were 3 female staff, we looked at the food, the variety of cakes/muffins were very limited, in fact it was half empty eventhough there weren't many customers in. When we were ready to order we were given attention then, one told us to wait, staff member took our order with no eye contact, while she grabs the cakes she was chatting to her colleagues, we paid and waited, she placed the cakes and juice on the tray and said ill get you forks and knives, but then we got knives only, she said we don't have forks.. although it was a large room with many empty tables, however a lot of tables had left over cutlery/cups/plates from previous customers, its like customers were expected to clear tables themselves before sitting, i would if bins were available! cleanliness wasn't a priority for the three females. Phenomenal coffee and service, the staff always happy to have a chat especially with regulars. I've never had a bad experience here that couldn't be explained by lack of assistance on the supplier's part or being short staffed (understandable in our current climate). The staff put up with the absolute most, not even from customers sometimes - Gills locals know about the vandalism rise - and they still manage to be able to do their most. Some people in the reviews don't understand that service workers are people too, you're not always going to manage a smile when you've been working a 6 hour shift with the lunch rushes with only two people on staff. Read moreI recently visited Costa Coffee and had a generally pleasant experience. The coffee and pastries were up to the usual high Costa standards, and the service was friendly.
However, one significant downside during my visit was the overwhelming presence of cigarette smoke. The atmosphere was unfortunately devoured by the strong odor of cigarettes from nearby smokers, which made it less enjoyable for non-smoking patrons like myself. This aspect certainly needs improvement to create a more comfortable and inviting environment.
Despite the issue with smoke, Costa Coffee continues to deliver on quality coffee and service, which is why I'm rating it 4 stars. Addressing the smoking concerns would make it an even better place for...
