The Great Lines Heritage Park stretches from Gillingham to Chatham, offering a vast expanse of green space. Steeped in history, the park itself is a treasure, but its proximity to other sites adds another layer of enrichment. Explore the nearby Fort Amherst, a testament to the area's military past, or pay your respects at the Chatham Naval Memorial. Beyond its historical significance, the park is fabulous for recreation. Walk your dog, jog in the summer sun, have a relaxing picnic under the shade of towering trees, or simply chill and enjoy the fresh air. And for those seeking further exploration, consider venturing out to nearby historical gems like Kings Bastion, Sally Port Gardens, and Town Hall Gardens.

The Great Lines Heritage Park is a complex network of open spaces in the Medway towns connecting Chatham, Gillingham, Brampton and Historic dockyard. The long military history of the towns has dominated the history of the site and the park. The Great Lines Heritage Park, consists of Fort Amherst Chatham Lines, the Field of Fire (later known as the Great Lines), Inner Lines, Medway Park (sports centre) together with the Lower Lines. The photo shows the names of the soldiers who sacrificed for the country during the war.

Great Lines Heritage Park in Gillingham is a serene escape from the urban hustle. Its quiet ambiance and green spaces offer a peaceful retreat for those seeking tranquility. The historical significance adds an interesting touch, and it's a nice spot for a leisurely stroll or a moment of solitude. However, the limited amenities and lack of bustling activity might not appeal to everyone. If you're looking for a calm, simple outdoor experience, Great Lines Heritage Park could be a decent option.

If you want to get some fresh air, have a walk and take in the views, this is a good place to go. Take the kids and the dogs and tire them out. You have good view overlooking Chatham and towards Rochester. The Lines are next to Fort Amherst. Another place you need to visit. Also on the Lines is the Naval Memorial which commemorates the navy personnel of two world wars. There are two other identical memorials, one in Portsmouth the other in Plymouth.

Go there.....spend some time......and enjoy it. It's a long walk but the scenery is absolutely beautiful in all seasons. Went there after a long time a couple of days ago and it was entirely different from what I saw in February. But it still looks great. Great place for a walk. Reaching the end, sitting on the bench and watching the sun go down and the lights come up in the neighbouring towns of Chatham and Rochester is absolutely relaxing.
