We went to a cabin for the weekend as a group of 4 adults and on the last night we drank and awful lot and needed a cure the morning after. We went to the local garage to grab snacks and water and saw a Cranstons Cafe and thought we would go back pack up and return. It was a Sunday and we were greeted but found it odd that we were then told our table number and just pointed in the direction of said table and given menus. We had to get extra cutlery and salt/pepper despite being plenty of other tables being served.
The food we thought was a little pricey however it did not disappoint! The miso mushrooms on toast were amazing and the hash browns were nothing like I’ve ever tasted just maybe a bit too crispy which I guess is personal preference. We were never checked on and there was no announcement of a 2 minute silence and had we not have read the sign on the way in we would never had known which we assumed most diners did not. The menu also says their is a free drink with the full English but when ordering we were never guided and when we went to checkout a flat white was not part of it but any juice/soft drink was but my sister still paid for hers. All in all food was great...
Read moreI never usually feel the need to leave a review, but after the unwelcoming greeting, I felt like I should share my experience. After a trip into the shop, where the produce was wonderful, we decided to try out the cafe. We were unaware that it was closing, but rather than politely being informed of this, a member of staff was particularly rude telling us we would have to order immediately because they were closing the coffee machine. As a hospitality worker myself, I fully understand the frustration when someone walks in when you are closing, however, I would never dream of speaking to customers so rudely and abruptly. A let down as I frequently travel around these parts and would of happily returned when the cafe was open but after today's experience, I will not be returning. I should share other members of staff seemed friendly enough and it's a shame for one member to let down their teams reputation and to create an...
Read moreI’ve eaten at Oswalds many times previously and today, came back to find a changed (and more expensive) menu. We were held up in traffic for over 20 mins so arrived at 11.05. We then found that you don’t get a tea or coffee with your full English after 11am. We explained what had happened but there was no compromise to be had. The new menu prices a full English at 12.50. Add a black pudding for 2.25 and as it was 11.05, add a tea for another few quid. That puts a full English up to over £17!!!!
We were also disappointed to note that the only egg option is poached now. My kids won’t eat that and I’m not that keen either. Any self respecting cafe would give you the option of what egg to have.
Such a shame. They’ve priced themselves out of my List and the lack of a drink after 11 takes the biscuit. With no other egg option, i bought a sandwich and left. ...
