Sunday LUNCHTIME Carvery - that's what Marston's website should say. For future visitors, it's only served from 12 - 3pm. We had booked online for 4pm and arrived early for a drinks, to find the restaurant area virtually empty. The staff were apologetic, informing us that their Facebook page advises correct times for carvery and that the rest of their menu is available all day. But we wanted roast, so went to the other village pub where, although not carvery, a roast dinner is available all day. We've lived in the area for three years and, I'm sorry to say that, each time we've tried the Elephant & Castle it's not been a favourable experience. No doubt the new management are working very hard to make things better, but we've tried the venue for the final time. (NB: As far as review 'stars' go, simply went for neutral 3* across the board... in reality, we can't honestly comment on Food/Service/Atmosphere. Oh, and we did check Facebook later and their "featured post" only states Sunday Carvery, with no times. If you have the time and inclination to scroll back through all the posts, a 10 August post states carvery 12-3pm, but that felt like a lot of digging to find a key piece of...
Read moreWe have in the past had a couple of very nice meals. So when we had an evening trip from Southampton to Weymouth, we decided to have an evening meal here. When we arrived I was able to park in the disabled bay as the carpark was virtually empty. Having got mum into her wheelchair, we entered and found a suitable table in an empty restaurant. We spent a few minutes looking at the menu before I went to the bar to order. It soon became apparent that they had a Quiz Night just starting (7pm). I waited at the bar for about 5 minutes, before someone informed me that they didn't do food after 7pm on Wednesdays. This was a contradiction to their website which stated that the kitchen shut at 9pm during the week. They certainly lost out that evening, they lost our custom, then and in the future. Thank goodness for the Tap and Railway, a little further down the road, where we had a lovely meal before...

Booked four people in for a meal on Monday night.
We arrive on time, order food and drink promptly. There is only one member of bar staff so a little wait, but unphased.
Our food (two fish and chips, a mixed grill, and a lasagne) proceeds to take over an hour to arrive at our table and the mixed grill was missing several things listed on the menu. There were maybe 2 tables dining otherwise so the place was hardly packed.
The bartender, who is also acting as the waitress apologised and explained there is only one person working in the kitchen.
This is shocking to have only two members of staff manning a pub restaurant (even if it wasnt busy). I feel sorry for the bartender who was working so hard to accomodate the entire pub and think the managerial staff need to hire more employees.
Very dissapointing, would not...
