Went there last night as reviews have been very good and many people i know recommend it.
Fully aware that the decor is basic etc but the food is meant to make up for it. However this is not the case
Upon arrival we sat and waited ages for menus, when the waitress came over she said are we ready to order, then realised we hadn't even got our menus.
I had pizza - which was nice, but my dad's lasagna looked like it had been scooped up off the floor and my partner's Bolognese was just lumps of mince. And the garlic bread was burnt and had hardly any garlic or cheese on it. They replaced the Bolognese (dad was happy to eat the lasagna) and when it came it was disgusting - there was no flavour and really watery. My partner couldn't eat it They also forgot to bring the parmasan cheese - when it did come dad had pretty finished. So a waste of time bringing it
Yes they did cancel the Bolognese off the bill and the round of drinks but i would rather pay and have a nice meal. My partner ended without anything apart from a few pieces of garlic bread
Needless to say we'll never go back. There are far better Italian restaurants at the...
Read moreMy wife, son and I visited Franks' for the first time last night, having read some good local reviews about the food. Decor is a little on the basic side, but we received a warm welcome, were shown to our seats and our drinks order was taken straight away. The drinks arrived a few minutes later together with our menus. [Other reviewers have posted pictures of the menu, if you want a look.] Our food order was taken promptly and, as we were seated where we could see the kitchen, we spent the next 15 or so minutes watching the food being prepared. When it arrived, we were not disappointed. Portions were large. Our 2 pizzas were delicious with light but wonderfully crispy bases and plenty of fresh and very tasty toppings. My wife really liked her pasta too, saying that her Carbonara was the best that she had enjoyed in years. The bill arrived soon after requested and was, I thought, very reasonable. Please be aware that they do not accept card payments. In short, we will definitely be back for more. If you want to try some of the best authentic Italian food in the area, I would highly recommend a...
Read moreIf you're a fan of British Pizza, then this will not disappoint. It is far better than anything else in Kettering - here's the catch... if you've had good pizza before, if you've eaten even moderate pizza in America, or if you have an average pallet and some spices at home, don't bother... you'll find that this is ok, not good.
To put it in perspective - Streets of New York pizzas - 8 of 10 for New York style pizza - although purists will contend that its crust is far too thick. Uno's - 9 of 10 Chicago Style pizza. Franks is neither the thin crust large slice greasy goodness of NY, nor is it the super thick crust 8" buffet-pizza-pie of Chicago. It's missing good spices - but unlike most English food, Franks does actually use salt in their food.
Hope that helps someone - I'm still looking for anything resembling a good pie in the UK. Anyone traveling here from NY or Chicago, let me know, I'll pay you to bring a good pie over the pond - although customs may confiscate it... liable to collapse the industry and all.
Good luck...
