We attended Eden as part of my hen do. Unfortunately, two people had not been able to make it, so they checked that everyone was there before proceeding to take our drinks orders. They were polite and helpful (we had a couple of people who couldn't have tea and coffee, so they provided soft drinks within the price). Throughout the booking process, they had been really considerate and accommodating. The food was delicious though there's never enough savoury in an afternoon tea in my opinion and myself and my mum were both saying that we could have happily eaten more sandwiches. We were talking throughout the tea about how this may become our new restaurant for family events and how we might order platters for the day after the wedding, my neice's birthday, and other events at home. When we had finished eating, they kindly brought us takeaway boxes for the cakes because nobody had really eaten any cake. When it was time to pay, everything went downhill. We were told at that point that we would still have to pay for the people that hadn't attended. Doing this itself is not our issue. Our issue is that their reason is that the food was already prepared. When we argued that we didnāt receive that food, they said that the sandwiches were now stale and would be binned but that we could have the cakes to take (which we already had loads of anyway). If we had been told when they were checking that everyone was there that we had to still pay for those not in attendance we would have either asked for the food to be brought out with the rest (as we said earlier we would have happily eaten more sandwiches) or for it to be wrapped so that it didnāt go stale. It was such a shame that they did not have better clarity and communication as this soured the event somewhat, and they have lost out on lots of...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreHaving frequented this establishment when it was under its previous owners and never being disappointed, we thought we would give the new owners a try. Food - every mouthful of Sunday lunch was perfect albeit not huge portions and the Yorkshire being shop bought. The staff are friendly but inexperienced and lack basic training. No knowledge of the wines on offer or the basic principle of eye on customer at all times instead of chatting behind the bar and being more interested in what their colleagues are doing than what their customers needs are. Hopefully the owners will take constructive criticism on board from seasoned diners and invest as much in their staff as they have the decor. One point to make, when visiting a restaurant for a meal one doesnāt need to see the owners children flitting in and out drawing attention away from where it needs to be - on paying customers. We will give it another go in a month or two to see if they have iron out...
Read moreExcellent restaurant, a bit off the beaten path but still in Leigh just! Modern European style food, nothing new or unique but proven combinations of high quality ingredients. And most importantly they are cooked very well. We had Scotch Egg and Mackerel Pate to start; the egg was warm with very tasty sausage meat and still a bit runny. There pate was light and tasty, beneath a set butter crust and served with sourdough (of course) I had lamp rump for the main; served medium at promised, it was very tasty if a little under seasoned. However the accompanying jus was very well done, lots of flavour, and the dauphinoise potato also perfect. The Mrs had duo of pork; crackling, belly and also cheek. All cooked superbly. Again the gravy was full and well matched. We were too full for dessert but thoroughly enjoyed the meal and will be back again. Short wine list, we had a Cotes de Rhones which was a little over priced at £23 but easy drinking...
