Went in today with a voucher from a local site which is usually used to drum up business in quiet periods. Started off badly with someone that looked like they were maybe helping out or a local having a drink? Either way not helpful and once they moved we managed to talk to someone that had an idea on how to seat us. Quick ordering for both drinks and food, couldn’t order extras on a roast as they seemed to have underestimated how busy they were going to be… didn’t fancy a fiver for extra carrots… Food came, it was alright, nothing to write home about, but small portions on the roasts, tasty what was there. Service seemed stressful for the staff, you could tell they were busy, rushing past tables which in a cold environment really made the wind chill our table had to put the coats back on! Nice touch of listening to the washing machine on a spin dry upstairs but the real gem was the men’s toilets… wouldn’t have looked out of place in a dank nightclub, women on the wallpaper laughing at what you were coming to pee with.. really needs to be the next thing on your refurb list! Overall it was average, staff were busy but they would have known that, ticked a box but wouldn’t rush back!

Actually had a really great time. The guy who is running the place (I'm.assuming Paul from the sign) has been amazing. So helpful, so friendly. It is my sons Birthday and we brought a cake in with us. I went to ask if we could light the candles and he happily took the cake out the back, lit the candles, dimmed the lights and even sang along with us. Anyways back to the pub, the food was pretty good, definity no complaints. Portion size was good too. The pub is now corporate owned and I was worried that it would lose its character (this was my local since I was born) but it's still very welcoming and the only none pub feel is that it's bright and clean. Anyways, good job Griffin. Will be coming again!

I had the absolute pleasure of dining at this incredible restaurant during my very first visit to this charming village, and it was an experience I’ll cherish forever. The food was exceptionally tasty—every dish bursting with flavor and clearly prepared with love and care. The service was warm and attentive, making us feel so welcome from the moment we walked in. And let’s not forget the location—it’s absolutely stunning, with a picturesque view that perfectly complemented the meal. This was more than just a meal; it was a memory I’ll treasure for a lifetime. Highly recommend! Regards Maddy & Yudi

I came to the establishment 3 weeks ago with my partner and two year old son, we were shown to our table by polite the waiter, but because it was quite a dark area within the pub we asked to sit by a window where there was a bit more light, we then started looking at the menu, and also the kids menu. The kids menu was very good value for money, meal and a pud for 6.99 which my boy absolutely loved. I ordered the chicken burger and my partner ordered the hunters chicken. We took our son out in the garden which he loved as he loved the maze. When our food was ready, we were less than impressed. My burger was £15.50 and all it was, was a burger and portion of chips. That's it, no salad, no little pots of coleslaw, not even an onion ring or two. When you put this into comparison with other pubs who have also had a refurb, it's very poor value for money. Not only that, my partners hunters chicken was shocking. It was a large plateful of food, but the chicken itself was appalling. We are not stupid when it comes to food. The chicken breast was very clearly a whole breast, cut in half then the half was cut again to be used for the hunters chicken, and it was rubbery as anything, inedible. We didn't bring it up at the time because we don't like to make a fuss, but as soon as we paid, left and got home, my partner had immediately started quite violently being sick, and was sick all night, and had to spend the next day off work. He said it was definitely the chicken as it didn't taste right (he is a qualified chef so he knows his stuff). I rang the pub up explaining what happened and the gentlemen on the phone said to me that I could have a full refund of our meal next time I'm in the area. Unfortunately I don't live locally or drive, but when it came to going to get the refund, the pub told me it had been passed onto the company's customer service team, who have then said an investigation needs to be conducted. I said that there was no issues with the kids meal, but the two I was not happy with. I was told by customer services that the staff member in the pub should not have offered me a refund as they hadn't done their investigating yet. I'm extremely happy for them to look into it as we've got nothing to hide, but I was misinformed by an incompetent member of stuff that we would receive a refund. And 3 weeks later I still haven't received a refund. I have posted several times about this on the Griffins Facebook page, ironically, I have now been BLOCKED by there page. I will continue to write anywhere possible about my experience with the food there until I get what I am owed, and if it's all so innocent, why was I blocked? I am in the process of telling people how disgusting the food is since it's been refurbed. We always used to come there, but no more. Don't fix something that doesn't need to be fixed. I want my refund I was promised, I will NOT stop until you have given that to me.

And also Paul, what was the need for your staff to block me on your social...

After having a meal at this establishment, and after experiencing it, with my niece who lives on the island, I reported what was a fair and honest opinion of the meals that we had. This included my niece having pieces of Swede that was hard and not properly cooked, served in a separate bowl with some Brocoli and Carrots. I experienced having pieces of Whole tail Scampi that were obviously bought from a supplier, without the chef, or the owner having checked that they were up to a standard and size that would justify the establishment having a far better review than was given. With my having carried out undercover checks on hotels, restaurants and many other businesses, for the NOP Mystery Customer, Guest, Fieldwork Division, my assessments have always been accurately recorded over a number of years. My dessert was down on the menu as Apple Crumble, but it didn't have any mention of any additional fruit in it, plus the small portion was served in a very small square bowl that was considered to be far from VFM. On reviewing the whole meal experience, and doing so in a constructive manner as a diner, and having what was a totally abusive reply from the owner, which was so abusive, and accused me of being boring, and excuses made that if I'd asked about what was in the Apple Crumble I would have been told that other fruit was in it, plus they also put that they didn't check the size of the Whole Tail Scampi, most of which was estimated as being from 5mm to 10mm long. Other diners known to my niece, and others who also live on the IOW, have commented that they too were far from satisfied with their meal, and its cost, but these diners don't review establishments on TripAdvisor, as other wise far more medium to poor reviews would have been found. Other local establishments were visited and those dining in them were seen to have reasonable sized meals that on checking the menu board were found to be far cheaper than the Griffin. The Griffin owners/management, ought to realise that constructive criticism is given for a reason, and by insulting a reviewer in such a foul manner does their reputation no favours whatsoever. As a result they have lost not one or two customers but several who are coming to visit Godshill in the near future, whilst many islanders have made it known that this establishment has been going downhill for over a...

Visited yesterday while catching up with family. We had a toddler with us. They sat us as soon as we arrived which was actually early for our table. The staff were really nice, can not complain about the customer service. Was quite a delay with food though. Why do food places not prioritise the children's plates when it comes to bigger tables?? Our family members got their food and wanted to wait for us before eating however it was a good 10 minutes before ours arrived so the others had started to eat before having to eat it cold. And by this point our toddler was not a happy child being so hungry! Luckily, the quality of the food and the portion sizes were amazing and so this soon made us forget about the delay with food arriving (bound to be some teething problems as I am informed it is newly opened). We had already decided to have a dessert, they sounded too good to miss out on. The ordering became a little complicated due to my daughters already being ordered with the main meal and ours being ordered later however they soon figured it out. Desserts arrived within moments of ordering them, infact so quickly our main plates had not been cleared but this was then done swiftly! On the table we had the cheese and bacon burger - delicious, although paying £3 for extra onion rings felt abit much because there were only 3 onion rings! The children's chicken goujons were very tasty. The linguine, sharer platter and a few starters were had by the rest of the family, again all beautiful and no one had any complaints on the food. Desserts - most had chocolate brownies which were very tasty but so rich meaning not all of us could finish, the others had crumble and sticky toffee pudding - again these were eaten with delight and no complaints. Family who llive on the Island will be using again and no doubt when we come back to visit we will be using Griffin again as our meeting place. We did not get to use the garden but have heard good things so looking forward to seeing this next time. Love the...
