Best bakery in the area! Good selection of sweet and savory. Must try the rutland pippin and the cruffin (croissant muffin). They have tasty donuts as well. They also sell David Mellor bread knives, olive oil, and balsamic.

I have been going to this bakery since my parents moved up several years ago and always had a good experience.

However, during the tail end of the pandemic when restrictions eased and the UK were relaxed. I walked in with a MASK on and the woman with grey hair shouted at me saying “2 customers in at one time. Do you not realise that we’re in the middle of a global pandemic?!” I was so shocked that this woman could speak to me like that, I just walked straight out. I felt mortified and my parents were outside and shocked too. I felt like the smallest person on the planet, there was no sign saying 2 customers at one time and I was careful wearing a mask.

Then the other day my mum said let’s go in even though I was nervous about seeing this woman again. So we went in - the same woman again. My mum asked politely asked her “do you have any pippen pies?”. And the woman picked up the slate with them labelled on and sarcastically said “can you not see that they are all sold out?” Proceeding to turn the slate upside down to prove there’s none on the slate…. My mum was speechless and we just left, she felt like she was spoken to like a child.

I’m unbelievably disappointed in the lack of respect that this woman has with her customers. Don’t work in retail if you always have to be right and put customers down. I’m appalled by her behaviour and I’m a 28 year old woman who would never speak to my elders like the way she spoke to me.

We will never...

I always love to get local produce whether it from a bakery, butchers or brewers when I’m in a new area, but unfortunately this wasn’t a great experience. The atmosphere was awkward from the staff with no real rapport. Prices were eye watering and the actual quality of food was majorly lacking. The sausage roll had beautiful pastry but the sausage meat itself was dry and completely tasteless. The custard tart was stunning though hence why I’m still giving 3 stars. Real shame as I’m sure it was just an off day but expensive prices for average flavours really isn’t...

I visited the shop at Exton yesterday morning. One of the staff... a lady with fair / greying hair... dropped a baguette on the floor where customers were walking in and out. Did she bin it? No, she picked it up and placed it on the shelf where others were stacked, ready for an unsuspecting customer to buy it? Did I say something? No, I was speechless and realised that if standards at the bakery were so low, it would doubtless be happening unseen by customers who expected much better...
