A couple of days ago, my family and I had the pleasure of dining at Ivy House Restaurant, and it turned out to be a truly delightful experience. Nestled in a charming small village near the ocean, this hidden gem offers not only exceptional cuisine but also a welcoming ambiance that immerses you in the beauty of nature.
From the moment we stepped foot into Ivy House, we were greeted by accommodating hosts who made us feel like treasured guests. Their warm and friendly demeanor set the tone for the evening, making us instantly at ease and excited for the culinary journey that awaited us.
The highlight of our dining experience was undoubtedly the impeccable food. We ordered a variety of dishes, each of which surpassed our expectations. The fillet steak was a true revelation. Cooked to perfection, we were delighted to receive a genuine medium-rare steak, a rarity in itself. The succulent and tender meat, paired with exquisite flavors, left us thoroughly satisfied.
The fried trout was another standout dish, showcasing the chef's expertise in bringing out the delicate flavors of the fish. It was perfectly cooked, with a crispy exterior giving way to moist and flaky flesh. The chicken Cajun, with its bold and spicy seasoning, provided a tantalizing contrast to the other dishes, adding a touch of culinary adventure to our meal.
When it came time for dessert, we were treated to a heavenly delight—the sticky toffee pudding. Each spoonful was a decadent indulgence, with the rich toffee sauce enveloping a moist and flavorsome cake. The harmonious balance of sweetness and warmth made it a truly unforgettable finale to our meal.
Beyond the exceptional cuisine, Ivy House is situated in a picturesque village with enchanting gardens that contribute to a serene and relaxing atmosphere. The proximity to the ocean adds an element of tranquility, allowing diners to escape the hustle and bustle of city life and revel in the beauty of nature.

Read moreWe had the most beautiful meal here last night, everything was amazing. The staff are lovely and attentive, the food freshly prepared and piping hot. I had (well I ordered) the pate, the bit I got was amazing as my 13 year old ordered the bruschetta, I knew he wouldn’t eat it when he ordered it so he ended up swapping with me!! For mains we had the duck, fillet steak and hake, all beautifully cooked, I’m not a fan of hake usually but I tried some of my husbands and it was cooked to perfection and not the dry meaty fish I expected! My fillet was cooked medium rare just as I asked. The duck looked beautiful. I’m not a big veg eater normally however I ate it all, everything cooked so well!! Even though I was full I was sold on the crème brûlée, and it was the best I’ve ever had (I’ve had a lot of crème brûlée’s). I cannot fault this place at all. Plenty of parking, choice of indoor or outdoor dining and they have the friendliest black cat that waved us goodbye in the car park. Well...
Read moreMy wife and visited this beautiful restaurant in a lovely, fairly secluded setting just outside the village of St Merryn, for a birthday treat. There is ample parking to the side of this quaint property and offers the possibility of sitting in their lovely garden on summer evenings. The décor is lovely in a French style with cosy seating. We visited on a Monday, out of season, and whilst it wasn't busy I would strongly recommend booking during more popular times. The service was lovely and friendly too with a menu very much to our liking. We chose the squid with aioli and the tempura salmon for starters, the hake and sole for main courses, sticky toffee pudding and chocolate fudge for desserts. The food was beautifully presented and delicious. We shall not be waiting for more birthdays before visiting this gem of a restaurant again. Please note that it closes...
