I’ve now booked a table at La Cantina for 12 people to celebrate my mum’s birthday. Before confirming the booking, I went to the restaurant in person – not just to secure the table, but because I genuinely care about the place. As always, the staff were friendly and welcoming. But once again, I noticed something surprising: the dining room was almost empty. Only about one-third of the tables were taken – just like during my previous visits.
Curious, I asked the head chef (who I believe might be Spanish – which makes sense, given how Mediterranean the kitchen feels) why such great food wasn’t drawing a full house. His answer was honest and insightful: “Our prices reflect the quality of what we serve – fresh, well-prepared dishes. But in this area, many people are more focused on cheaper options, and sadly, that often comes with lower quality.”
That stuck with me. I’d rather eat in a quiet place with real food than join the crowd elsewhere for something frozen and rushed. The atmosphere here is calm, ideal for conversation – and the food has never disappointed me.
After the family birthday meal this coming Sunday, I’ll write another review – this time including the opinions of all 12 guests. Why am I writing a review for every visit? Because I genuinely want this place to succeed. The team deserves recognition, and I believe the more people discover this place, the more likely it is that they’ll keep delivering this amazing level of quality.

Read moreAfter a great first visit in November, I returned to La Cantina in February 2025 for another business lunch – this time with a different group of colleagues. One of my business partners ordered the Chicken Saffron, which looked and smelled fantastic, while I decided to try something new… and epic.
I went for The Beast – a massive steak, also called Tomahawk by the chef (who I suspect might be Spanish – which would make sense, given how truly Mediterranean the kitchen feels). Whether it was 32oz or 42oz, I’m not sure – but the size and presentation were unforgettable. Served on the bone, grilled medium-well, juicy, rich in flavour… easily one of the most impressive steaks I’ve ever had.
As a starter, I ordered the King Prawns Alla Cantina – partly because my business partner from the first visit couldn’t stop talking about them. And yes, he was right – they were juicy, full of flavour and served hot, just the way they should be.
I finished (barely!) with the chocolate fudge cake, which once again delivered that warm, rich, gooey texture I loved the first time – plus smooth vanilla ice cream and generous chocolate sauce. Incredible.
I’ll absolutely return to explore more of the menu – because everything I’ve tried so far has been fantastic. And if you’re reading this: drop a comment if you’ve tried The Beast yourself – for me it was a serious challenge. One thing I know for sure now: no more starters before...
