We must have caught this place on an off day, staff not at all welcoming or friendly in fact it seemed like they were actually doing us a favour letting us eat there rather than being thankful for our custom. There are lots of lovely places in Hawes to choose from but we chose this one for the location. Upon arrival the first thing we were told by who I assume is the owner was that between 12pm and 2pm it is preferred that we eat and cannot just have a drink, he then pointed to a menu board that we had to order from before showing us where we have to stand to place our order, just inside the doorway. I understand the precautionary measures that have to be taken under the current circumstances but this was delivered in a very regimented unfriendly manner. The food and drinks were served promptly but that said we were the only customers in the cafe as we arrived as it was opening. The food came without cutlery or serviettes, the waiter said he would bring some, however he didn't, in fact no body came back again to see how we were getting on so we just ate the garnish with our teaspoons. To sum up we got the impression the cafe wanted our money but did not want...
Read moreWe had an amazing three night stay at Laburnum House and will 100% be returning the next time we need somewhere to stay whilst exploring Yorkshire! The room was perfect for us (myself, partner and our 4 year old) - really comfy and clean and the breakfast, beautifully made by Mark, was just incredible. Entering the house in the evening with the scent of freshly made cake wafting through the air was lovely. Stuart was so helpful with advising us on places to visit and walking routes and couldn’t have been more kind or attentive during our stay. Our little one has asked if we can come and stay every week! There is loads of free on street parking right by the b&b and plenty of nice places to eat in Hawes itself plus many beautiful places to visit within a shirt distance. Highly recommended and we’re so grateful to Mark and Stuart for a fantastic stay...

Ordered the cappuccino, together with the Bakewell tart and laburnum cheese scone and butter off the home-made shelf.
The scone and tart were delicious, and all praise to the cook making them.
I wanted to ask to watch the barista in action so I knew what not to do, though. The ‘coffee’ had a foamed milk top with some chocolate powder sprinkle, and that was where the resemblance to a cappuccino ended, because what was underneath was the weakest drink I’ve ever had that dared call itself coffee.
Stick to tea and I’m sure you’ll be fine, but order coffee here...
