Earlier today I visited this cafe believing it to be the one a neighbour recommended. Indeed it was well attended by approximately 20 to 30 motor bikers. I was out on a Sunday bike ride and after 75 miles and overy 6500 ft of climbing was looking forward to and needed the food which looked good. I ordered a bacon egg and sausage butty at Β£3.95 plus a large expresso at Β£2.00 I asked for a large glass of tap water. I visit cafes all over North/ South Yorkshire Humberside and Lincolnshire. So I was 'astounded' when the waitress charged me for the glass of water as I was when her colleague said 'no need to be rude' when I refused to pay for it and handed it back over the counter. Like many cafes I got the coffee straight away it was served in a quaint little expresso cup and as coffees go was reasonable. Coffee is a personal thing and others may have loved it but I have had better but usually more expensive coffee. For a Β£2 cup it was acceptable. The butty bun, bacon and fried egg were all as expected but the sausage was a disappointment. Im not into posh food but the sausage was definitely somewhere this cafe had saved money with cheap sub par ones. I wonder if I'd been given budget ones for refusing to pay for tap water. Without doubt being charged for tap water spoilt my lunch time stop as did being told I was rude refusing to pay for it. The cafe food that 'I chose' and ate isn't a patch on other cafes including 'biker' cafes I attend whilst out on training rides either im...

We were going to eat here this morning. As my partner walked through the door, a member of staff barged past her. If it wasn't for my partner quickly moving, she would have been knocked into if not over! The same member of staff then walked into me and shouted right beside my head to some people sitting outside. She then charged back in with no apology or recognition. We were there to use the cafe! Therefore we left and went to another cafe in town which was great. Extremely poor customer service. The member of staff was female, broad shouldered, and wore those leggings with bum...

Probably the best cafe in Hawes . Called in on a mad hot day. While people were basking in the heat outside we enjoyed the air con inside. We wanted a cold drink - they had a good selection of cold cans served in a glass with ice, a big plus for us. We didn’t eat as we’d already had food. However, I noticed that the food coming out looked appetising and large portions. Next time we visit Hawes we will have no hesitation in visiting and eating...

The brownie, if you can even call it that, was probably one of the worst I've ever had. It was much closer to a crumbly, quite tasteless cake mix, not at all squidgy or chocolatey like brownies are meant to be. Felt like going and asking for the money back. The rocky road's chocolate also tasted cheap. Not sure how this place got as many high reviews as it has.

Such a lovely and friendly place, food is always excellent and very popular with walkers, bikers etc. Good outdoor seating too. I've been here quite a few times on my motorbike and as well as being set in a beautiful quaint village with astounding scenery it's friendly service and great food always sets you up for the day.

I hadn't been there for over 2 years because of a family tragedy. I was with a couple of friends who both enjoyed their first visit to Penny Garth. I had double egg, chips, beans and two slices of bread. The meal was delicious and plentiful. Thank you all and a very happy new year.
