This is one of the loveliest pub buildings in the country. The building itself is enough to make people want to visit. We used to go here on any Saturday night when we were in Shrewsbury and on other occasions but a change of management in 2015 (early 2016?) resulted in us stopping. We gave it another try last night (July 2017) and were pleased to note that it had improved somewhat. At the least the rather ill-tempered barman who once more or less threatened to call the police if the group of 4 pensioners from the Cotswolds didn't either finish or leave behind the drinks that he had served them 5 minutes earlier on the last orders bell seems to have gone.
The snug is still a lovely room and a great place to make new friends although the lighting now seems excessive (it used to be a little gloomy, which was appropriate) and we hate the horrible, mainly ribald "rhymes" that are written on blackboards around the wall for what they call "Poet's Corner". We're not prudish - they are simply crass and the word "you're" is written "your'e" in one verse which is just weird.
Anyway, The Loggerheads might be back on our list of pubs worth visiting. Hopefully they can find a way to improve. It wasn't that busy and we didn't recognise any of the former regulars, which could be a problem for the business. The place should be packed.
The beer was ok, if a little uninspiring, presumably because it's a brewery pub (Marston's?) with...
Read moreI was enjoying the Xmas eve session and the most famous Man in Shropshire came in. Mick Boulton, the owner of Boultons buses. Everyone in Shropahre loves Mick. Not a harmful bone in his body. Known and loved by all.So the loggerheads is wrong everyone knows how wrong. I for one stopped drinking and left. Please remember this pub belongs to Shrewsbury.. Everyone hates these ownrs and people can be barred for nothing. People will drink there and play music only if they are happy. The landlord hurt and upset a lot of people and will go on doing so. I work within the media and behaviour like this is noticed and will be reported don't ruin our town by misunderstanding it. There aren't many small pubs left. Not only have you put people in that know nothing, you have destroyed a tradition that is centuries old. But hey you are money men why should care? Shrewsbury people vote with theiryou...
Read moreThis is just one special pub. Not particularly large but seems to pack in lots of rooms into a small place.
This has been the 4th time we have visited here( staying in The Prince Rupert Hotel situated in front) and have experienced great ales, a friendly welcome and best of all able to enjoy the Tuesday night open mic/ folk night which seems to attract some very talented folk from around the area. I can’t comment on the food here as we were here in the early afternoon and then the evening so didn’t require any sustenance other than the quaffable ales.
We consider ourselves extremely lucky to have found this pub - we’re “ old” and qualify for bus passes which enable us to travel for free- yes free— on The Heart of Wales railway from Swansea to Shrewsbury- a short walk from the railway station takes you to our hotel and this great pub
Heartily recommend...
