30th Birthday Celebration! I've never had a bad experience whilst at House of the Rising Sun but wanted to leave this review from my most recent visit. We booked a large group for evening meal to celebrate my sisters birthday and from booking to when we left everything was brilliant. The staff there are so accommodating and communicate well about dietary restrictions and dealing with a large group. We took a birthday cake to them earlier in the day and asked that it be brought out for desert later. When I asked if they had any candles there the staff member said if they didn't that a member of staff could pop out and get us some if need be. Our waiting staff were very attentive, always filling up our water and keeping an eye on when our drinks were running low. They explained that because of the large group that food might not all come out at the same time, which was fine, however, there were no big delays and was actually preferable. The food is amazing there, and I would highly recommend the mezze board and noodles. The cocktails are also very tasty and not just full of sugar. If you don't manage to finish your food then they are happy to box it up for you to take. When it came time for the cake to come out they turned the main lights down and staff were even singing happy birthday, which was appreciated. Service charge is optional but I dont see how you could not include this as I've never been able to fault the place or the service we get there. As we left we were told it was a pleasure to have us there which was nice given it was a very busy Saturday for them. All in all would highly recommend whether it's for lunch or evening meal, a quiet one or a celebration.

We were on the lookout for a spontaneous dinner and drinks spot and were pleased to stumble upon The House of the Rising Sun. From the moment we arrived, the customer service stood out—they made sure we were accommodated even though we didn’t have a reservation. Since it was a last-minute night out, we ended up seated at the high chairs, which were a bit uncomfortable, especially if you’re dressed up (like in a tight shirt dress). The interior design is impressive—stylish and atmospheric, though a little too dim for dining. It feels more like a place that’s tailored for drinks and conversation. One standout feature is the bar with its aquarium-style backsplash—absolutely eye-catching. We tried the Teriyaki Beef and Chicken Katsu. The katsu was excellent—crispy, flavorful, and definitely best enjoyed with rice. The beef, on the other hand, was slightly chewy and not as tender as expected. For drinks, we had the classic Mojito and their signature cocktail, Land of Smiles. The latter was a highlight—refreshing with a unique spicy kick that really elevated the experience. Overall, The House of the Rising Sun is a lovely spot for a date night, especially if you’re after a cozy ambiance and creative cocktails. We’d definitely go back—hopefully with a reservation next time!

House of the Rising Sun has an excellent selection of drinks that are of a consistently high quality each time that I've been. Their food menu also seems very carefully put together, so much that my partner and I were intrigued enough to visit for lunch one Sunday. On that day the service was friendly, the drinks as mentioned were delicious but it was let down by the food. I had the Tonkatsu Ramen; a pork based dish and my girlfriend had the Tofu Katsu Curry with a side of boiled rice. Firstly, I was a bit surprised that the rice didn't come with the curry. I don't begrudge paying for it but who would want just a bowl of curried tofu? Nonetheless the curry wasn't bad, it had a nice flavour but could have done with more ingredients including than just tofu. Ramen-wise I was accidentally given the Tofu Ramen, caused by the waiter mishearing me. It happens sometimes and they were very apologetic. But when my correct meal did arrive i was very disappointed. As you can see from the photo's it looked the part, but everything was tepid at best. They had clearly cooked all the toppings and noodles separately and were relying on the broth to heat it all up, well it didn't work and i didn't finish it.

This place gets 3 and of 5 because I really recommend it for cocktails, but go somewhere else for food. I think the appearance of the food is clearly given a lot of care and attention here but not the...

This by far is one of the best bars, restaurants in Shrewsbury. Its a very comfortable, ambient place. Food is fantastic with reasonable portions. I had the burger with skin on fries for my main. Kimchi and whitefry for appetisers, my son had sweet and sour chicken we both thoroughly enjoyed our food. It can get busy at times so I would recommend pre booking if you require a table on weekends or evenings.

There's a happy slot for cocktails which are reasonably priced and made artistically by the staff for you with perfectionism. I believe it's 5pm until 7pm Monday to Friday but please check this. Alongside this there is also an early bird menu used at quieter times uptil 7pm, this was the menu I selected from and I was very impressed with the quality and portions for the cheaper option. My mouth is actually watering as I write this review as I live local, and I have the fortune of being able to dine here whenever I want. As for the staff, they were very attentive and I liked the fact that our water glasses were constantly kept topped up without the need for us to ask. I would highly recommend here for meals, pre theatre drinks, romance, it's a lovely place and flips between calm and lively as the evening goes on. I also use this place for weekend drinking as it's very classy and attracts...
