I had a really really dramatic experience in this resturant. The manager pretends he cannot understand Mandarin Chinese, but actually he could understand. I admitted my attitude was bad, but he triggered my anger. I lost my decent and elegent image in front of all my friends, because of this manager!

Let me tell you what happened. We drove a long way to this remote place to eat, bcz we heard that they served good food. However, we waited for more than 1 hour, and the food was still not ready for us! I asked the manager to make it quick, and he said, I need to to undertsand that it is normal to wait such a long time for dinner. (I am speechless about this)

Then, the food came. And all of them were not tasty. I can even cook better than them, and I am not a good chef, but I can cook better than them. !! The rice was freezing cold and seems like left over rice from the day before yesterday...

Bcz of all of these bad experience, I argued with the manager. But he seems quite unfriendly to me, and this triggerd my anger.

Also, he spoke Chinese first, then switch to English. and I also heard he said he cannot understand Chinese.... What? What? What? Excuse me? You cannot undertstand Chinese, but you said Chinese to me at the beginning...

It is not a good experience and the food is bad. Please read my review before...

Revised Janary 2023: All change - great food still but this time with superb service.

Booked a table for Dim Sum at 1pm on a Sunday. Immediately seated and drinks order taken. Time to peruse menu and staff immediately available to take order. Staff proceeded to bring our food order out over the course of the next hour with spent dishes promptly removed. Restaraunt was busy but service great.

Original review:

Great food, appalling service.

Visited Sunday lunchtime just after 1PM for Dim Sum menu. We had not booked in advance.

No table immediately available, no problem, we waited and waited and waited. Eventually went back to entrance and we were seated immediately.

It then took 15 minutes for drinks order to be taken. We requested the Dim Sum menu again and this arrived after another 10-15 minute wait The food eventually started arriving more than 1 hour after arrival.

The dishes were great. Tasty and well prepared and presented. We ordered an initial 6 dishes with the expectation of ordering further Dim Sum.

Again we waited and waited. Tables were cleared, staff member sat at table next to us. But still no one came over to offer service 20 minutes later we gave up and.left paying at the entrance on our way out.

We will visit again one evening and hope to be able to revise our review in a more...

Went last night, only us in the place, we were given the menu and 5 mins Later we were asked if we were ready to order. We said no but ordered about 5mins later. Asked for a pint of coke and got a glass which was under a pint. Thought maybe they don't do a pint. Then food came a few minutes later so obviously all warmed up in micro as no way could you cook spare ribs and mains so quickly. Spare ribs I could understand being warmed up but not mains. Now I have never had a chicken chow mein swimming in gravy tasted ok but because of so much gravy in cooled down far too quick, there was no tea candle warm nothing to keep food warm. Used to go to the one in Leeds all the time till it closed so did the 80 mile round trip from where I live as a treat but defo will not be going again, the walking up and down and standing behind us while eating was so annoying then a couple came in, no one else till we left then they closed and to top it off turning off some light and using cleaning products that stank so much while someone is eating is disgusting. So no not again a fat bill for sub standard service. So much better in Leeds. It was almost like hurry up and get out we...

Would absolutely recommend coming to try the dim sum here. We tried 7 different dim sum dishes, and all were very tasty. Our favourite was the duck egg custard buns. The staff were friendly and helpful. The only criticism being they didn't come back to us to check on us after serving food. However, this did not take away from a great overall experience. The place has an authentic feel, and all our food was delicious. We will definitely be returning to try more dishes.

Yesterday we went to Maxi’s Chinese Restaurant in York. After the normal temperature was checked we were seated down at a very nice corner. All waiters seem to wear masks. Very nice. We talked about the Maxi’s at Leeds which was no longer there. Miss the Leeds one a lot! Well, teas were served and we ordered. Very fast! We ordered mainly ‘dim sum’. They all came quickly. Wow, they tasted great! Have a look at the photos. Yum yummy 😋

Great Chinese food. All the dishes I have tried from here have been excellent and the prices are really reasonable too. The staff are always friendly and greet you with a smile. Even with a full restaurant, I’ve never waited more than half an hour for my food. I recommend the salt and pepper chicken pieces for a starter - they are really good! Decor in the building is wonderful too and gives it that real authentic feel.
