If I could give no stars I would! Unfortunately I had the worst experience last night at Mevan and will definitely not be returning! I go out to lots of restaurants and hate leaving bad reviews because it’s people’s business’s at the end of the day, but I have never had to deal with such a rude waitress in all my life! Myself and my 2 friends went to Mevan on my suggestion because I recently went with my husband during the week and loved it. Whilst waiting for our starters we were given a bill for £60. I called the waitress and said “sorry this isn’t our bill” she snatched it from me and said it was for the table behind me, no apology was given for the confusion, that’s fine. We asked when placing our order if we could swap the mash on our £25 steak dish for chips and was told no you need to keep the mash and pay extra for the chips, wow! We waited for over 10 minutes after 2 of our starters arrived for one of our starters and when it came there was no apology for the delay except we were met with hostility. I did not receive any bread for my babaganoush (try eating slop with no bread) and when I asked, the same rude waitress (blonde hair) snapped at me and said IT’s COMING!!! When the bread did come it was practically thrown at me and I was met with a filthy look on her face! Pure attitude!!!Then I had to eat my food whilst meeting a death stare from blondie every time she came past our table. We finally decided we did not want to meet any more of blondies hostile attitude and asked another waitress if we could cancel our mains and pay our bill for the starter. This waitress asked me why and when I explained how rude the blonde waitress was to us, blondie overheard me and decided to argue with me in front of all the customers saying she was not rude. The waitress who got our bill was very apologetic and explained blondie was an extra they had brought in. The food is really tasty but it’s a shame that the service in there was so outrageous! I have never had an experience with such a rude waitress in all my life. Mevan why would you employ argumentative staff with attitude? And surely in this day and age you can swap mash for fries on a £25 dish, they are both potatoes. And the calamari starter was £6.50 for 3 calamari rings ( that’s about £2 a calamari ring). Sadly this customer will not...
Read more02/01/21 - the restaurant have since provided a good will gesture, apologised and explained in person - which we feel was only fair to accept as this was a one off - so the matter is resolved and we'll hopefully have a better experience in future.
01/01/21 - Totally Ruined Our New Years Eve. We were persistently fobbed off that the food was on its way out the door, yet we were left to wait hours for it to arrive, when we are located only a 6-minute drive from the restaurant. We’d pre-ordered @ approx 5pm for delivery at 7:45pm and the food eventually arrived three hours - yes, 3 hours - late at 10:45pm. To put that into perspective, that is 40 minutes shy of a flight to Turkey itself. Received sarcastic comments that everyone pre-ordered at 5pm (so, one can only allude, many of their customers would have also received their food abysmally late too). We were offered no form of good will gesture, as compensation for waiting three hours for the food to arrive and spoiling our night. Although the food itself was good (although the halloumi wasn't the best), having to eat it so late in the evening totally spoilt the enjoyment. Having paid £60+ for two meals, it beggars’ belief that there was no offer of even a percentage discount on a future order and only a flimsy apology received by text the following morning. We have previously dined at the restaurant and were always happy with the food but how we’ve been treated on this occasion, we shall not be spending any further money with them. Pretty rubbish end to a rubbish year. Very Poor Mevan, Very...
Read moreThe decor and branding, from the menu to the choice of funky Turkish music is fantastically done. Alot of thought has been put into the concept of this restaurant and without doubt this is a very good restaurant.
However, hailing from North London myself and being used to the offerings of the marvellous Ocakbasi restaurants from Hackney, Stoke Newington, Haringey's Green Lanes etc for me the food, service and what we're asked to pay are what's important.
To the uninitiated the kebabs are obviously of the 'Posh' variety in comparison to the run of the mill Kebab shop serving frozen 'JJ Foods' Doner but in comparison to let's say Green Lanes, Hackney or one of my favourites 'Beyti' near Stoke Newington Green, Mevan is average.
On the plus side, the complimentary bread was fresh, the food was not over seasoned with salt, which many Ocakbasi's have a tendency to do and the desserts were also nice.
It just wasn't anywhere near as tasty, as succulent or as intricate as Gökyüzü in Green Lanes for example.
Considering we weren't in London, we actually ended up paying more than what it would cost in North London for two, three course meals.
This restaurant is by no means a bad restaurant, nor was my experience a poor one but for all the hype, the brilliant decor and the amount of thought that's gone into this brand, the food just wasn't special, the service was pretty average and the prices were dearer than in...
