A hidden gem in the heart of our cute town! I say hidden, even though it is a big shop right in the center, but I have noticed that quite a few people in town don't know about it, usually when I'm walking around town with half a baguette sticking out of my face and people sweetly comment with "that looks great!", and "you seem to be enjoying that!", and I end up telling them all about my favorite sandwich shop and butcher. The butcher side of the shop is usually quieter than the sandwich side, a bit on the expensive side, but their fillet steak was superb. Now to sandwich side, clearly it is a very personal experience, but I shall tell you about what I have really enjoyed, many many many times,. Their sausages which obviously come from their awesome butcher are sooooo good! I like a couple in a baguette, a couple of hash browns, some brown sauce and mayo, and I find myself in speedy breakfast heaven! If I'm there around 12-2pm, then its Mexican chicken, baguette, tomatoes, cucumbers and lettuce, a sprinkle of salt, and I am drooling as I write this! If they don't have any, try the chicken tikka, its half-way there. Now for the practical information, the baguettes are the nicest I have had outside France, Tunis and a little place I know in Oxford. Go early, they do run out of all the great stuff quite quickly, and be happy, the staff are always very friendly, huge smiles, super efficient, and they really go out of their way to help. But, leave your cash at home, they only accept card payments. ...
Read more“Right, let’s start with the good stuff – the bacon was on point, which is a rare treat compared to most places. But then… the sauce. We all know ‘special sauce’ is the classic blend of ketchup, mayo, and a little something extra. This one, however, tasted like it was made from the ‘bargain bin special’ mayo and ketchup – the kind you’d pick up for a quid down the road. And there was so much of it that I could barely find the burger underneath! It was more slip-and-slide than sandwich.
Now, here’s a tip: less is more. Drenching a burger like this turns a potentially solid meal into a ‘sauce tsunami’ that overwhelms the actual taste. I might as well have tossed a bottle of ketchup in while taking a mouthful of budget mayo.
I’m giving you 4 stars here because, hey, for Leighton Buzzard, this is top-tier stuff, and your team was on it with efficient, smoke-break-timed service. And I genuinely believe that, without the sauce flood, there’s a good burger hiding in there… somewhere. Or at least I hope. Because if the meat’s as cheap as the sauce, well, maybe that’s why there’s so much of it. But let’s not start unraveling that...
Read moreMy mother and I cannot recommend this place enough. It's wheelchair accessible, friendly and helpful stuff and wide selection of raw meat. They also serve hot and cold snacks and lunches, which includes a salad counter, freshly cooked meat (chicken, pork, lamb etc) wraps, hot sausage rolls etc, which is served by staff over the counter. I've tried their home made Steak n Onion, Steak n Stilton Pies and Cheese n Tomatoe Quiche, which are generously filled and delicious. Today I was easily able to drive my mobility scooter inside with plenty of room to manoeuvre. I ordered a warm lamb wrap with cheese, coleslaw, sweet peppers, lettuce and mint sauce for £4.25. IT WAS AMAZING.... Great value for money, top quality food, sizable portions and high standards of hygiene. I love this butchers and I visit them several times a month. A great asset to Leighton Buzzard and there is always a queue, which indicates I am not the only one who...
