A few months ago we had a large group booking at Sizzlers Bar & Grill. There would have been approximately 120 people on a typical Saturday night. But perhaps because it was a Saturday night we received what could only be described as awful customer service? The starters were due to come out at 8.00pm prompt & were pushed back till 8.30pm even though most of the party were at their tables? We hadn’t requested a table service so all members of the party went up to the buffet & were given 4 pieces instead of the 9 we had paid for. The party thought nothing of it as they could always go back for some more afterwards, however when they did, the waiters had packed up the food & were gone??? So what happened to the rest of our starters? The main meal buffet started at approx. 10.pm. When the waiters served the food the quantity resemble less than that of a Happy Meal! To be precise a typical plate was 3 pieces of meat (the size of a chicken nugget), a tablespoon and a half of rice, a quarter piece of Nan bread & a spoon full of salad. When members of the party asked for more they were given another piece of meat & another tablespoon of rice? When members of the party complained to the waiters they said to come back for some more. Having had so little food for the main meal many members though they would go back for a second helping when the queue died down. There was even an announcement to say if anyone wanted more to please go up, however, when they did, the waiters had packed up the food & were gone, again??? The FSA say that “Hot food can be kept below 63°C for up to two hours”. So what happened to the rest of the food, bearing in mind we’d paid for 120 people? Then to top of the night we had ice-cream for desert. How much did each person get…. Not even a whole tablespoon??? When a member actually confronted the Restaurant owner with “you can’t even give us a whole scoop of £1.99 ice-cream” his reply was “speak to the organiser as I don’t want to waste food?” We have in writing a list of the entire menu to be provided by Sizzlers for the booking, as well as the agreed quantity of the starters. When some of us arranged a time to go see the owner he kept going on about how his diary is already filling up fast for 2013. Regarding the starters his avoided response was that we hadn’t eaten them fast enough & were losing track of time??? Yet the delay in serving was caused by the establishment? We ended up resolving nothing & to quote the Owner directly “I have your money now, so what are you going to do about it!” Overall, members felt that the food tasted good, but inexcusable & unprincipled service. Not worth the...
Read moreMother India Restaurant, Function Room & Lounge was a fantastic spot for a Friday night out! Recommended by friends, we decided to give it a try and were not disappointed with the overall experience. Booking & Atmosphere Making a reservation was a breeze—we called just a few hours before arriving, and the process was smooth and hassle-free. The venue has a great atmosphere, with live music adding to the lively and welcoming vibe. The singers and musicians were truly talented, and the fact that they took requests was a brilliant touch, making the evening feel more interactive and personal. Food & Drinks The food was decent, though not extraordinary. Some dishes stood out, while others were just okay. Here’s a quick breakdown: Chicken Jira Wings – These had more bone than meat, which was a bit disappointing. The flavor was there, but the portion felt lacking. Masala Chips – Packed with flavor and one of the highlights of the meal! A definite must-try for those who enjoy a spicy kick. Butter Chicken – Cooked well with a good level of spice, but something felt slightly off—perhaps missing a depth of flavor or a key ingredient to bring it all together? The drink selection complemented the meal, and everything arrived at a reasonable pace. Service The staff were attentive throughout most of the night, checking in on our table and ensuring everything was going smoothly. However, when it came time to settle the bill, things slowed down significantly. We had to ask multiple times before finally receiving it, which put a slight damper on an otherwise enjoyable experience. Overall Experience Mother India offers a great night out, particularly for those who enjoy live music with their meal. The vibe, music, and entertainment make it stand out, and while the food has its hits and misses, it’s still a solid option for a fun evening. If they improve the billing process and refine a few dishes, this could easily become a top-tier dining destination in Leicester! Worth a visit for the atmosphere and music, with room for small improvements in food...
Read moreThe food was pretty decent/good, and perhaps at an affordable price too (we came with 8 and spent £9.80 each) and we all left fairly satiated.
I do think the place might be a bit understaffed in terms of waiters though I didn't take a good look regarding that. The waiter serving us was quite understanding.
As for the atmosphere, they have a live band that is so loud it takes away from the experience. It's directly damaging the quality of the experience and the restaurant. Granted, they informed me there's issues with the mic if they aren't loud (squeaking). That being said, a strong negative might be worse than just having no music. It was honestly stressing me out and if I had entered alone without having tried the food I probably would have just left. You are borderline shouting to talk to people near you, to give you a reference of how loud the music is. That being said they did try to curb the music after I personally talked to the band themselves and the manager(?) attempted to improve the situation.
However, this live band only performs after 7:30pm, so I've been told. As a result, I suggest coming early, lest you have your experience damaged...
