Always prided myself on leaving an honest review, both the positives and the negatives..... Had to prebook afternoon tea and was told if sharing an extra cost of £3.95 which included a drink but no extra sandwiches, fair enough! Table reserved, arrived on time but that was not the issue. Pre ordered 3 afternoon teas one of which was being shared so expected to pay extra cost. 7 of us ordered different food and a drink each from the menu, one wasn't eating as vegan and nothing on the menu they fancied but they atill ordered a drink. 10 people instead of 11 attended family outing whilst most people on leave from work, which we were looking forward to. Firstly they sat the people who were having afternoon tea together but we politely asked if they could put them on separate tier, a female came out with a bit of an attiutude and refused to do this as apparently food would look sparce! We were happy with how it would come out as family members wanted to sit together. If ordering individual tea did not see this being a problem and others could eat their own food they had ordered off the menu separately. Then unbeknown to me we have the manager on the phone speaking to my younger sister up the other end of the table on a mobile phone, apparently having a go at her. The phone was then passed to me and I took over the conservation and calmly talked to the manager who was off duty that day. Apparently she was under the impression 3 afternoon teas were being shared by all 11 so if that was the case why did we all (bar 1) order our own food and drinks! It was the attitude of this women who refused to separate the afternoon teas, upset us, then to be interrogated over the phone, which quite frankly is appalling, is very unprofessional and never have we experienced this before in our lives. My elderly parents were upset and decided to leave so the rest followed (whilst I was still talking to the manager on the phone). I informed her we were leaving and handed the phone back whilst walking out. The poor young male waiter apologised as we left. 10 in group (11 booked in) but my son didn't go in the end. We will not be returning. This is the first ever post I have ever left with nothing positive to say. ! Very...
Read moreWe called for breakfast on mothering Sunday. The tea room is pleasant, it does have some seating outside. Inside is the shop that sells lots of lovely baked goods jams, pickles that kind of thing. I did notice that very little had a price on it. And a lady behind us in the queue looked at something and didn't buy it, saying to her companion that she didn't know the price... After the shop area is the tea room area. Pleasant enough and appears to have been recently carpeted which I found unusual for keeping the floor clean and the traffic area from the kitchen through to the front shop. The table by us was stacked with empty boxes. They were clearly very busy sending out afternoon teas for mother's Day. We ordered English breakfast with hash browns as an optional item, a tea and a latte. There was a little bit of a wait before our drinks came out and appreciate that they were busy but....the table seated after us received their drinks before us. Ten minute wait for drinks and a further five before we were served with toast and marmalade. We were given tiger bread toast not a problem it was delicious and it was a further five to ten minutes before the other food came out. Two bacon, sausage, beans, and mushrooms and two eggs all cooked beautifully. We had kept our toast and our hash browns came out a few minutes later, again very nice but... two slices of toast is a lot, hash browns could be just one as they're large and it was a shame to leave one,it would be nicer on the same plate. Unfortunately our drinks had gone cold in the 15-20 minutes wait but were good while hot. I appreciate this may have been super busy that day and would have no hesitation in returning as in general this is a little diamond of a place that I would definitely recommend we gave breakfast 8/10...
Read moreExtremely disappointed. Following the very recent death of my Mum, in an attempt to fill the days leading to the funeral, I took my Dad for some lunch to get us both out the house. We are both feeling particularly emotional at the moment and had very little appetites and therefore asked what we would receive on an Afternoon Tea for one. After deciding we would not be able to manage an Afternoon Tea for two, we asked to share one between the two of us to avoid waste. At this point we were abruptly informed, by a very rude waitress, that we would have to pay an additional £4 charge on top of the original price. If we hadn't been so tired and emotional I would have left and gone to one of the other tea shops in the village. Feeling uncomfortable, we ordered the Afternoon Tea for two and ended up taking boxes of left over food home with us, as there was far too much food for the two of us. We left feeling extremely disappointed, the teashop was not remotely welcoming, the staff were rude and a nice run out for lunch turned out to be a stressful and...
