I'm genuinely shocked at the number of good reviews this place has.

The staff were polite enough, but nobody asked how our food was (even after we left full plates on the table and got up to leave).

Two of us and our dog visited the Old Farmhouse after a long walk nearby.

This pub brands itself as "dogs welcome" on its website, but when we asked at the bar there were no dog treats or water bowls available for our dog even after we had been walking him. Not very dog-friendly eh!

We both ordered battered tofu on Lebanese flatbreads - they were vile.

Nothing Lebanese about those flatbreads, although they were so cold and rock-hard they could have been flown in six months ago.

The tofu was silken tofu in a thick, greasy batter. Any vegetarian or vegan will tell you that you shouldn't cook with silken tofu, as it falls to mush - clearly the chef here needs a bit of practice with vegetarian food.

It all came on top of some mushed up rocket which had turned limper than an apprehensive handshake. And the sweet chilli sauce was non-existent. The chips the dish came with were frozen chips which had been thrown into a chip pan. Lovely.

Big portions of food don't make up for it being inedible. Theyre obviously going for quantity over quality.

As we had our dog we had to eat in the bar area, which was absolutely filthy and in desperate need of refurbishment. The seats were flat as a pancake they'd been used for so many years, think "sticking to the nightclub floor" vibes.

The best thing about this place is the beams...

Nice ambience lovely decor but that's as much as I can say. Went to sit in the corner on a big table in the dining room but was put off by the slug trails under the table. Wasn't impressed with the menu choice, nothing was explained, even when asked what parko was I didn't get an explanation just told it's season not whether it was hot spicy etc. Didn't fancy anything particular so opted for a hot platter starter as a main. It looked impressive when brought it but when I think about it it was just 3 fish bites some ribs and some mini chicken fillets. The meat (chicken and ribs) were both very tough and the batter on the fish was still mushy and puddingy... The wedges was in fact only 4 and tasted like a jacket potato quartered and reheated. Everyone else seemed to enjoy their meals besides some not being able to finish the meals and a consensus that they'd be better charging 7 or 8 pound a meal and having smaller portions. I thought it wasn't quality and not good for the price I wouldn't choose to go again. I would have been better just getting some chips as they did seem nice. But even a side of chips was more than double of a chip shop and smaller portion. I think if you're not concerned about cost you might enjoy it but I think there's far nice places to eat locally. The lack of working lock on the baby change/disabled toilet and slug trails would prevent...

My family and I ate here last night. Shortage of staff and more customers than expected led to bad customer service. I asked the male waiter on duty to help me take a family photo which would have taken no more than 10 secs and he said no, that he is too busy and walked away. I was absolutely surprised as I have never been to any eating place that declined a simple task. Food arrived, except for the Cod and Chips because they forgot to cook it. By the time that arrived, we were half way finished. I ordered Lamb Shank and the plum sauce was extremely salty. My brother ordered Cumberland Pie and the inside pie was also very salty. The Cod and Chips, Sausage and Mash were fine. We asked for the bill, they gave us one that was around £120. I checked it, it was the wrong one. Ours was £93. Gave them a credit card, the waiter inputted £99 on the payment machine and my brother trusted that it was correct and immediately put his pin number. Only realised, after it went through and handed us the payment slip that the payment amount didn't match the bill amount. By then, we were so annoyed with the bad experience that we just wanted to get away from this place and would never come back. Basically, if it's too busy, then the service and food is jeopardised. No...

Poor. Wouldn't even give it a star. The reviews on this Pub are great, however it definitely isn't. The food is below average, we arrived on the Sunday for a nice Sunday dinner to be served a plate of rubbish. It came fairly quick however, The beef was overcooked and tastless, the roast potatoes were absolutely rock hard like they'd been kept warm for a month. The veg was poor, a carrot with a big dirty hole in, leeks On a beef dinner? Tastless hard cabbage. The gravy was like water which was a pot shared between two people. The Yorkshire pudding was burnt. The mash was that instant rubbish and was just horrid. The pudding was no better, white chocolate, raspberry and peach pudding. It had been microwaved and the outside sponge was hot and the inside freezing cold. Disgusting place. I would rather wait that bit longer for a half decent dinner done with abit more care and thought. The waitress asked if everything was OK with the meal, I was so taken back by the food served I think my face said it all.

This place was recommended and omg it did not disappoint. We wanted a roast dinner and was offered a 3 course for £15 yes I did say that right. I had homemade tomato soup served with warm bread n butter. Roast beef served with mash, parsnips, roasties, Yorkshire pudding, green beans, broccoli, carrot n suede and loads of gravy. Black forest Eton mess. My friend had prawn cocktail served with warm bread n butter and salad. Chicken supreme with the same as above. Marble cake with chocolate sauce and vanilla custard. All the good was absolutely delicious and I will def be back especially for the price!!! The staff were very friendly and helpful. I cannot recommend this place enough. Can't wait to go back even though I live an hour away!!!.

As a regular business traveller to Cumbria, I know how food should be. I was recommended this place whilst in ulverston. I wish Id seen the furniture and decor before I ordered...it was dreadful , in dire need of a refurbishment. I was put off my food thinking the kitchens were in the same state.. when I got the food, it wasn't that great. The Cumberland pie pastry wasn't cooked properly and was very pale. The filling wasn't that great either, and I had only a couple of pieces of chicken, the chips were frozen ones and I had a few that weren't cooked in the middle. Overall disappointed, especially with the price I paid. Please upgrade your seating and carpets . It's not a good look.
