Went with a friend last night and WOW! What an experience. I wasn't sure what to expect with Pan Asian as you have to be able to pull of multiple cuisines so I was skeptical. Boy was my skepticism taken completely way upon leaving. We started with the 1 peach & 1 plum sake as an aperitif of sorts, both were exceptional and was just the right amount and served in a very unique way (see the picture).
We ordered a variety of dishes all of which were a mixture of gyoza, bao, sushi, some small plates just to have as much as possible from the menu. Every dish came out as they were made which we were made aware of from the get go by the waiting staff . This is important because some people may not enjoy this type of eating. The majority of dishes are made to share. For example when you order a bao bun, you get two and ordering the gyoza you get four. Couldn't fault the menu, there was a great blend of Pan Asian cuisine. The service was quick, are food started arriving minutes after we ordered!
The crab sushi was delicious although we failed to spot the wasabi on the plate and accidentally ate a large portion of it without realising and felt quite a bit of discomfort... with this dish, like the soy sauce, can you please put the wasabi on a separate dish to avoid destroying your customers' noses, it would be appreciated!
Other than that every dish was out of this world in terms of the textures, flavours and wonderful presentation. Just looking at the food made me salivate. One final thing I will say is that the Korean Fried Chicken shouldn't be called that. Traditional Korean Fried Chicken comes in two variants, Soy or Chilli, and the batter on the outside is a hard crispy batter shell that is fried twice. While absolutely delicious, this dish wasn't Korean Fried Chicken and shouldn't be called as such. Anyways, just an observation for the management but don't worry I won't be downgrading my rating as everything was just so tasty and delicious that it would be silly to give anything but 5 stars.
Ended with the custard buns desserts which were miles better than anything I'd had in the past, lovely custard filling without the 'eggy' flavour or aroma and a perfectly cooked black chewy bun surrounding it - delightful.
If you're about in Ulverston and looking for something a bit different, then I'd highly...
Read moreI hear the food is good but fear I’ll never get to try it. I made over 30 calls over 2 days trying to book, the phone was never answered & they appear to have no answerphone, or call forwarding service of any kind. The website has no information about opening hours or how to contact them except by phone as it says it’s still under construction. An internet search revealed an email for booking but these too were not responded to. An online automated booking website (not their website) revealed no availability for the whole coming year. The website is still under construction & does not direct one to the preferred/only method of booking - Messenger/Facebook, or indeed the days of the week they are open/closed. I eventually drove to the restaurant, desperate to book a table for two for Valentine’s Day only to be told they were fully booked. I can only assume most people are sending old fashioned letters, or gave extraordinary amounts of patience! The food may be great but at the prices charged I would expect some form of booking system to exist. I am not prepared to go to these lengths to reserve a table, so sadly will content myself at the excellent ‘Base’ restaurant, or superb ‘Bengal Rose’. Life is just too short to wast time with businesses that are not focussed on offering ‘reasonable’ customer service. PS we ended up cooking at...
Read moreReluctantly leaving 3 stars as I DM’d my feedback but a week on have had no response.
The staff are wonderful- well done !!
We had around 8 / 9 dishes and all of one of them were pretty good although way too many chillis and too much salt for my palette.
The meal was tarnished though by a cauliflower dish I ordered .
It was supposed to be roast cauliflower with a satay sauce .
It arrived a full 20 mins later than the last dish .
( I know I know you bring it out as it’s ready - I’m totally good with this )
First impressions- It stank - it was clearly a dish that wasn’t pre prepared.
I think your chef panicked and boiled half a cauliflower and then doused it with the sauce then covered up how ugly it was with carrot rounds and pickled radish ( the nicest bit btw )
I was ready to leave and wasn’t at all hungry by the time it arrived so asked for it to be boxed .
Hoping I could give it the benefit of the doubt ! 😃
But seriously- it was rank . I LOVE roasted cauli but it was akin to something my Nan would serve on Xmas day . And she puts her Xmas veg on in February!
Honestly- next time please come & tell me the dish isn’t available rather than insulting me or anyone else with that !
Yours...
