My wife and I came to Ulverston with the purpose of going to the Laurel & Hardy Museum, and wanted to stay somewhere thematic to our journey. After some research, this place showed up and was the obvious Inn to both dine and stay the night.||||This place was exactly what we wanted! A very short walk into town (less than 10 minutes' walk to the museum, less than 5 minutes into the main part of town). The decor paid proper respectful homage to Mr Laurel. Parking was easy. The best part of staying here was really the hosts/innskeepers (Trudy and Paul)- they were friendly, helpful, and really made the place worthy of a destination location. The food was also excellent - we ate quite well. The rooms had appropriate namesakes. The only small criticism I might place in this review is that the rooms themselves could stand a bit of upkeep, but were otherwise adequate as a good night's stay. We were also greeted warmly in the morning for breakfast before we departed - again, a lovely meal with friendly, helpful staff.||Even if you don't plan to stay overnight in Ulverston, this is a nice place to stop by for a nice tea and pud whilst in town. The dining area was full up with people at suppertime for very...

Read moreWe can't really fault this as a pub, good quality ales from the well stocked bar and excellent food at competitive prices. The dropped star is more from personal preference. I like country inns with good views, which this is lacking, Ulverston is a market town, I hesitate to use the term 'quaint' , but can think of no better way to describe it. The accommodation is very basic but if all you need is somewhere to sleep at night it's functional enough. No 'luxuries' to speak of. The proprietors are welcoming but the opening hours slightly restricting. The stan laurel is easy to get to by car just look for the Ford main dealer that's next door as you drive along the main duel carriageway, but be aware that off road parking is limited. I am not in the position of being able to comment on its accessibility if you are not driving to the pub as I don't know about bus or rail links to the area. In a nutshell, well worth a visit but probably not somewhere you would want to visit (no fault of the pub ) for any sustained length of time unless you are prepared to foray out. A good base for exploring the southern section of the...
