Had a lunch break here on a long journey to York. A nice traditional café with little chandeliers, palms and lovely views from the upstairs windows. The waitress was very welcoming and friendly and although it was busy I was served quickly. Lots of tempting lunch options including Yorkshire rarebit, soup, ploughman's lunch and a good choice of sandwiches. I opted for the jacket potato topped with tuna, tarragon and spring onion, served with a lovely salad. Very tasty and quite filling! Read moreGreat cafe, food is all home cooked and delicious. The scones are lovely and the lemon cake and carrot cake are extremely yummy. We had Yorkshire rarebit which was also good. The portions are very good. There are two floors, both of which have a flight of stairs as access. Good washrooms (1 on each floor). If you are on the top floor you will need to choose your table and what you want to eat then go back down and give your order and pay. He got his drink about 15 minutes before the scone arrived! When he complained to the waitress she dismissed him by saying that's how it works here!! Poor training! I spoke to the manager who said she had not been told but her manner was not very apologetic!! She did say she was understaffed but this is not an excuse for a scone!! Our food was top notch.
