Tucked away on a charming road in Harrogate, we discovered a true gem of a Japanese restaurant that transformed our rainy day into an unforgettable culinary adventure. Visiting from Lincolnshire and London, we were immediately welcomed into a warm atmosphere that promised a delightful escape. From the outset, the staff treated us like dear friends, their passion for food evident in every interaction. Their attentive, friendly service made us feel right at home. The waitress that served us (sorry we didn’t get your name!) was so welcoming, personable, knowledgeable about the menu, and genuinely has such a warm persona. Now, about the sushi: we thought our local spot was the best, but this restaurant surpassed all expectations. Each piece was a handmade work of art—crafted with care and bursting with fresh, authentic flavours. The vibrant presentation made every dish a feast for the eyes. Leaving with our hearts full and taste buds dancing, we couldn’t help but plan our next visit. This delightful find ensures we’ll be coming back to Harrogate more often to indulge in the exquisite sushi that has set a new standard for us. If you’re in Harrogate, don’t miss this culinary treasure!

Going to Harrogate for a weekend in April 2025 we were not expecting to find a top-notch Japanese restaurant just round the block from our hotel. We arrived without booking and a short while after were seated. The exhaustive menu offers a lot of dishes – all of which were cooked freshly by one chef. This means that there is a slight waiting time for each course, but that's perfectly worth it. All the hot dishes were delicious, only the Chirashi sushi was perhaps not at its absolute peak (but perfectly fine to eat!). In terms of atmossphere the place was bustling and busy, always a good sign. Only slight drawbacks were that we had to ask for glasses for our beers and the Covid plastic partitions between tables throughout. We had a friendly chat with one of the people working there, she was super professional and passionate about the place and it showed. Don't miss out on going when your in H'Gate (especially when you need something a bit umami after all the Bettys teacakes you might have had before).

Wow! Just wow! When you google something different and think ah they close in an hour? Stuff it let’s go! Husband and I, lovely wine and beer, the food…. It’s a long time as a couple in hospitality can say that this food was nice or lovely, but outstanding! The pumpkin croquettes my husband ordered I thought personally was weird but no! They were bloody lovely! I had the teriyaki chicken, super tasty and tender and even the sesame seeds were toasted! Mains husband went for duck I had the steak, waitresses said a customer had mentioned the duck was tough….. pppffftt no it was not! Both exceptionally good! The egg fried rice with mushrooms… not heard of that before, could have eaten bowls of it! I will and husband agrees would drive an hour from where we live for this food! Staff were excellent, chatty and very knowledgable! 100/100 from us!

The restaurant definitely suffers from being severely understaffed. As sushi lovers, we've tried a lot of it throughout the world, and here it's quite average but does the job. However, the food gave both my husband and myself stomach ache...

The real problem is that the restaurant is very small and gets overcrowded and very noisy. The food comes out sporadically and we had to wait for around 45 minutes to an hour for it. We were warned by the waitress but at that point we had no choice cause it was too late to go somewhere else and we had booked the day before.

The ladies working there try really hard, to the point where I felt very bad for them because they were obviously highly stressed, literally running around, trying to please too many people at once. This is not sustainable and seems like a very stressful environment. As a customer, I come to a restaurant to relax and enjoy the meal, not have people running hectically next to me. I also don't like to see staff so overstretched.

Thank you for the effort, we did appreciate your politeness. We hope you can get more staff to support your business cause you definitely need it.

Finally, please don't do Deliveroo if you have one chef and your customers in the restaurant have to wait an hour? Something's got to give. Other places pause Deliveroo when they...

The in restaurant experience was great; the first time I went, the food was lovely and service prompt.

Booking however was another story. My hours meant that I could not call, so I messaged them on facebook, the method I used to book with them the first time I went. I messaged on Monday and did not recieve a response till Tuesday a full 24 hours later. Not great, but it was a response so I messaged to confirm I wanted the table. Another several hours later I recieved a response saying they no longer had tables for 6 people. Just great.

If things change and you are not willing/able to take bookings by message anymore, communicate this. I feel I have essentially been ignored and others have been offered tables I could have had, despite myself having attempted to book earlier than them. Not their fault, this is purely at the feet of the restaurant.

Turning off chat or even just not replying at all would have been better than the poor communication I recieved. At least then I would have known to ask someone else to call on my behalf instead of thinking the scant responses I did recieve were actual progress.

I did then try to call when I did have time. Every time I phoned, it rang out, went to voicemail, which informed me that their voicemail was full. I am left bewildered as to how I was meant to...
