The most rude unprofessional manager I've ever come across. Covid times... & I'm front line health care professional.... After washing my hands I tried the hand dryer 3 times... Could not get it working. Came out, told the bar man but he was busy. A voice behind me said it does work.... I'll show you. I asked whom he was... The landlord. Oh my, he was extremely abrupt. He about turned me like some military manoeuvre.... On entering the ladies... He tried twice, on the 3rd time and touching the dryer it worked for him. I said maybe a sign saying touch the dryer maybe helpful. He said look.... I've told you 3 times it works so that should be sufficient. After working front line, 12 months.... This was our first time away together as my husband is also a key worker.... We thought finally, 2 nights away in Harrogate, relax & find a nice bar. The pub looked decent, pity the landlord wasn't. All he needed to say was here you are, I'll show you what you need to do.... Instead he tried to humiliate me in front of his "locals". Disgraceful Yorkshire man to say the least. Don't go here people. £13 for a beer & prosecco... Plus abysmal service. Oh, be sure you have the test & trace app on your phone as their patience in waiting to download it was one of irritation to them as I witnessed. You'd think after being closed for so long they'd welcome customers.... but maybe you've to be a regular there to get a smile. It's very rare I give a bad review. I give...
Read moreI had a very bad experience. The owner asked me to go get an other drink pointing at the bar, then specified it had been 20 minutes since I had finished mine. It was sunny, but not busy outside and there were many free chairs. Also I had already purchased a drink. I went inside to get an other drink but also mentioned that never happened to me before, (nor in Paris nor in New York!) so he added that because I made a remark about it that was going to be my last drink, basically kicked me out. I felt discriminated, and actually had no reason to treat me like that. I was politely talking at his tables and enjoying the company of an other customer I had just met.
Incredibly bad manners, rude and also discriminatory
On wider reflection that place is a black sheep on the road, all places are fresh, refined, have wide choice of food and drinks. That place has no kitchen and a modest choice of drinks and snacks. The furniture inside is dusty and rundown.
Really a black sheep for the Harrogate standards, both in terms of people and offer.
Only good thing is that they have...

The landlord here at The Montpellier is a joke! He hasn't a clue about customer service or what fresh ale should taste like! When I returned my smelly Timothy Taylor, he argued repeatedly and eventually replaced it with something else that was only marginally better!! He actually told me that I was talking out of my ar*e! lol . . 😵 Even the barmaid looked like she didn't want to be there! This landlord quite clearly is in the wrong job and should bow out gracefully! Lmao . . 😂 There are so many other great ale pubs within Harrogate, selling lovely fresh ale, so why would you want to use this place!
The Montpellier has the ability to be a lovely warm and friendly establishment, but not with this muppet at the helm!!
Good luck...
