I don't like Birchwood. There, I've said it. You may call me a snob, but these 'new towns' don't do it for me. What the planners did do right here, though, was to build a pub, too. Ok, so it's on the Asda carpark and there's not much else around, but at least there is the Peacock. I don't much like places that encourage drink-driving (registering your number plate at the bar gives you free parking), but it is what it is. It's a Marston's pub, so the food menu is extensive, as is the selection of drinks. As above, however, they've got a captive audience so quality and atmosphere is a bit hit and miss, and it's not cheap (a pint is generally over £5) but they do 'meal deals'. What you do get, however, is very good. The Sirloin Steak Americana (£16) was divine and the Mega Mixed Grill (£20.95) was large (and did beat me!), albeit a little overcooked. The wings and ribs to start (£6), with the 'devlish' hot sauce was very good indeed. Staff can also be a bit hit and miss (Debby was definitely a hit!) and children/families are more than welcome (there is a small indoor play area, and outside playspace too). The Peacock has a large outdoor seating area for when the weather allows (not much of it is covered). The toilets were clean enough though could do with a revamp. As with all these places it's a community hub, and rightly so! If I do find myself in Birchwood again in sure to come back.

Went on saturday for an evening meal around 5.30pm. Very loud lots of rowdy people and music very loud I think there was an event on, someones hen party? Nearly every table unclean, had to ask for ours to be cleaned as it was disgusting and every table was like that ive supplied pictures that i dont think they even care for cleaning ANY table, prices are very expensive especially the drinks nearly 4 pound each for a Pepsi come on. Waited for ages for ours drinks the food came before the drinks and we where gasping. Food was bland. Nobody came to see if everything was ok, not even on the way out. I get there was an event on but we are paying customers too and it seemed like they didnt care and was messing about being rowdy themselves they where all for this party then the other paying customers, completly ignored every but the rowdy woman there. Do not recommend this place at all!!

Edit for 2025. Unfortunately after many years of loyal service to the restaurant. Tonight was a little bit of a let down. Upon arrival we were ignored by a male staff member. Who would be our server for this evening. And from there it just went from bad to worse. From wrong orders. Snappy/stressed staff and then wrong food delivered to the table. However. BIG however. When trying to find a different staff member to converse with. Debbie stepped up. Debbie made sure the rest of the evening was smooth sailing. She made the kids feel welcome. She made the stress of the previous hours disappear and she overall made the night. After we had all packed up and ready to leave. I spoke with Debbie and she is just a delight. I can honestly say the evening was made so much better just by her being so kind and thoughtful. Thank you so much again Debbie.

I am compelled to write to you today, concerning the one thing that made our visit today, simply outstanding!

It was being greeted and served by Lily H, and subsequently watching her at work with other customers.

The greeting we got from Lily was world class. My wife and I use the hospitality sector rather more frequently than we probably should, and only in the places where, we are, quite frankly, paying for such service, does it come close to meeting expectation.

Lily greeted us in a cheery, and breezy manner, and asked for our order.

I was ready, but my wife, not so much.

Lily told her not to worry, she would get my drink, and recommended the baby Guinness deal to my wife, whilst she was deciding whether or not to have a Cruz campo, that I was having.

She offered my wife a taste of the product to help her decide, and made it clear that there was no pressure to order, she would be happy to await the decision.

In the end, we chose both the long drink, and the deal she had mentioned, that was displayed on bar cards.

I subsequently observed Lily helping other customers through app problems, and order issues, watched her unobtrusively up sell your products, and look extraordinarily professional, comfortable, and enthusiastic as she did so.

Unfortunately, my business does not require public facing customer service, but if it did, I would have tried to hire her away from you on the spot!

Take good care of this employee please. Any customer service role you could give her, she would make look like she was born to it, I have 40 years experience of successfully noting, and implementing...

My deposit for booking my table wasn't taken off my food bill, then they wouldn't refund it, then I was offered to either buy morr food and drinks to redeem it which I had no intention of doing or a voucher that I'd have to use within two months. I wasn't happy with this and said vouchers are usually at least for 6months so the manager extended it to 6 months. I would much rather of had my money refunded as it has just been Christmas and you were quite happy to take it off me and I know other people who booked this event and they weren't asked to pay a deposit. Then my philly steak sandwich arrived well done not medium rare, I then pointed this out they told me it would be 3 to 4 minutes it was not it was around 15/20mins+ and everyone else had finished by the time it had arrived I checked and it was even more well done than the last one, I again pointed this out and the man serving apologised and said they could do it again to which I said I am starving and everyone has already finished I can't wait again for this to happen again. Steak is not difficult to cook I could do it better myself he said he would see what he could do and he then never came back so I had to eat it as I had nothing else. The only good thing about the event was the entertainer he was excellent and the only reason we stayed. I don't really want to go back to use my voucher and would still want a refund and something done about the terrible service. Not stocked up on gluten free lager for new yrs eve also is...

Visited as a couple visiting for some tea and a drink. I have a blue light card and asked the young man at the bar if they accepted it. He said yes but it could only be used for one meal and not the two meals we were ordering. I said oh that's odd as i had always managed to use the discount and most recently used it at the Marston pub at Cheshire oaks designer village without a problem. He then said "Oh hang om a minute,I think you can't use the code at the weekends" He spoke with a colleague who said yes that's right. I found this extremely confusing and disappointing!! So gone from yes you can use it but only on one meal to no not at all. We were hungry so paid the £28 pounds for our food. When it came to our table my plate of scampi chips and peas was that of a child's portion!! I could count the peas as there wasn't even a spoonful on the plate. They shouldn't of even bothered! My partner ordered a steak and ale pie which had hardly any filling. We asked for a side of onion rings snd the waitress put the bowl on the edge of the table and when my partner reached to put the bowl between us it was that hot he burnt his hand!!We wanted some mayo but found it to be on a table near to the door leading to the pub garden and it was a really hot day. The sauces had moisture in the top of them due to being in direct heat. Nobody came and asked how everything was.Frankly it was bad all round. We certainly have been put off going to The Peacock again...
