What an absolute gem of a find! This cafe just screams out QUALITY. It has beautiful food, that’s obviously made with love and attention to detail, with a menu and specials that has something for everyone s taste. Eat inside, outside or take away… you will not be disappointed. I am writing this review having come from a catering/ restaurant/banqueting background, so I appreciate good quality food and service, so I’ll give credit where credit is due. The price does reflect the quality of product, so don’t expect a cheap basic butty shop here as this is York and you certainly get what you pay for. Please do not take that to be any sort of a negative in any way, as I believe it most definitely is value for money. This review is my second visit now, but definitely NOT my last. My first time was just in passing, where I treated myself an amazing, huge, home made pork and cranberry sausage roll, but also I couldn’t resist the temptation of picking up a lush brownie and cookie for later. Today I’ve gone for their home made American pancakes with maple syrup and beautiful (locally sourced) streaky bacon see photo. Delightfully large thick and fluffy pancakes, sooooo tasty! I also had to try a portion of their rather lovely chips, and this is where the foodie in me has to point out that they are “ Skins On - Twice Cooked” so beautifully fluffy and golden. Next time in I’ll definitely be trying one of the breakfasts, before systematically working through the rest of their menu. The staff were fantastic, warm and welcoming and the cafe is lovely, clean and cosy, with plenty of seating. Delightful atmosphere and now most certainly on my saved favourites list. I highly recommend this delightful treasure as a well worth visit. I’d like to congratulate the owner and...
Read moreHands down, the best cafe in York, in or out of the city centre and my wife and I have been to them all. Just go and tell me I’m wrong, hehe. Lovely, cosy atmosphere and quality food, for us, all the ingredients for the perfect cafe. Today my wife wanted a bacon and egg sandwich with the egg sunny side down but still runny with a hash brown on the side. She got exactly what she asked for (with an extra hash brown) and said it was perfect. I chose the waffles with berries, Nutella and cream. Phil wasn’t messing about. There were loads of fresh, juicy berries, lashings of Nutella and squirty cream. The waffles had that perfect crunch and the whole dish was delicious. There was a good amount on my plate but I wasn’t overfaced, just right. When I gave Phil my opinion today, he modestly said “it’s simple”. It is simple Phil, eating at your place puts a smile on our faces every time pal…he seems a lovely, humble fella and we can’t wait to go back.
Phil and Cindy.
Edit as of 20/4/2022 Phil’s doing Sunday Roasts! It’s not my fault you still haven’t eaten here, it’s yours. Thanks all, as expected it...
Read moreArrived. Waitress outside talking to someone, so go inside & order poached eggs on sourdough toast (£7.95) & cappuccino (£2.95). Returned outside to be told by waitress "we don't open til 9"..... I inform her It is 9, & I've already ordered but no probs. Sit down & immediately start sticking to the table, not pleasant. Ask waitress if she would mind wiping it down. Told, "I wiped it down before you got here", then walked off. So, continued sticking nastily to the table & breakfast [eventually] arrives. Poached eggs were great (reason for the rating of 2) but the bread was a crust/heel-not exactly what i was expecting for 8 quid eggs on toast. So waitress comes out & asks if everything is ok? So I tell her the bread is a bit tough & she says "its ciabatta" In short, I paid £8 for eggs on sourdough toast & got eggs on the bottom of a ciabatta bun, served on a sticky table with a ton of attitude.......
