The Queen Eleanor is a standard pub and grub establishment and a branch of Hungry Horse pubs and restaurants and a subsidiary of the Greene King pub group. I visited with my family and we were very happy with our experience. It wasn't too busy when we were there at about 3pm on a Wednesday afternoon during half-term. A table had just been cleaned and we were able to sit and choose our food before going to the bar and ordering it although it is possible to order and pay on their app meaning you don't need to leave your table at all which is great for busier times or if you are eating on your own. The food came within a reasonable period of time. It was exactly what we ordered and it was hot and tasty. We were able to make use of some good deals which meant that eating here, even including alcoholic drinks, was for us about the same or even less than going to McDonalds. The staff were friendly and helpful. The toilets were clean and presentable. There is a decent sized carpark. Also there is a children's play area but we didn't use this. All in all it was a good experience and I would happily return if I were in the area again. My only criticisms are minor. When we arrived there were a lot of used lunchtime crockery across tables but that was in the process of being cleared. Also the place looks like it could do with being given a bit of a revamp but in reality that is an unnecessary expense that would have to passed on to...
Read moreI went for a meal here on Bank Holiday Monday. The venue itself is in a great location and the lady greeting us was polite and friendly.
There is a system in place where you cannot order drinks at the bar, even though there are barriers and contactless payment available. Fair enough. However, the man behind the bar looked like he hated his job and was quite abrupt and rude to not only myself, but someone else who also has approached the bar.
Our food came and it was actually pretty decent food, the service from the waiter was OK, however he gave us our food without cutlery, then we had to wait for quite a while for cutlery to come over. The waiter apologised and explained it was because someone food was late so he had to deal with that, but at this point our food was getting cold.
Went to the bathroom halfway through my meal and there was no soap in any of the soap dispensers in the men's toilets. It was quite busy and there were quite a few men coming in and out of the bathroom. So knowing that none of these men could wash their hands was quite concerning. The mens bathroom was also in need of repair, toilet roll holders hanging off the cubicle walls, floor dirty, wood missing from the wooden panel under the sink.
So in summary: Good Food, a mixed bag in customer service from the staff, good venue,...
Read moreWe are currently staying at the attached Premier Inn. On two occasions now we took advantage of the senior citizens offer of 2 courses for £4.49. On both occasions we allowed one and a half hours for our meal. Starters came promptly, main course with a little bit of a wait but nothing too much. However on first occasion we then waited half an hour for the one sweet we ordered despite chasing on two occasions. On the second occasion we again waited a similar length of time, having been spoken to 3 times by the assistant, and simply gave up. As we left she was calling after us to say our sweet was on its way! Yes well so were we!!! Poor, poor service at a time when the restaurant wasn't even particularly busy at the time of ordering! Obviously 2 senior citizens rank low on the service scales despite always being polite an appreciative of the service we receive. No complaints at all about the food, but the experience soured on two occasions now by failure to complete a very simple order within a reasonable time. We watched huge sharing sweets com I g through and being served to people who placed orders after ourselves so obviously one Apple crumble and is just one sweet too many at Queen Eleanor...
