Called to this location as it had reviews stating dog friendly....dog rough as well!
The lady behind the bar had the customer service skills and welcoming nature of someone who didn't want us to be there. The place was busy and after a few minutes wait were asked to go find a seat in the room at the back as there were no other options...not a problem. As I mentioned we have a small dog, so we made our way to the back where there were no other patrons.
We took a seat and within a couple of minutes were told to move as dogs were not allowed in this room by a man who was in contention with the afore mentioned lady for Customer Service of the year award. I explained that there were no other tables and we had been told that we could sit here. He said it wasn't as this was the 'restaurant'. I am assuming that the provision of carpet in the room meant that this room had an elevated status to any of the others....
Needless to say we had to leave but given the encounter, I don't have any regrets other than we considered it in the...
Read moreWe were staying in a cottage close by and wanted to find a place that had good reviews in regards to a Sunday lunch but also accommodated dogs. We were expecting it to be full but was pleasantly surprised.
The pub was lovely and warm, with a large open fire, the football was on and service was really good. No one flinched if any dogs started yapping and there's a large area outside if you need to take them out for a quick tinkle.
The dinner was not amazing, the (s)mash, roasties and Yorkshire's weren't fresh and the meat was not sliced but more like pulled meat. But it was piping hot.
If they made the mash and Yorkshire's from scratch, and perhaps gave you the ability to buy add on's like homemade cauliflower cheese... it would make a lot more people happier.
It does have a proper pub...
Read moreLeft in tears after myself and support dogs, who were quiet during the whole bingo session and had been welcomed the week before, (I had checked separately if it was okay) All dogs are "welcomed" during the season. were told to leave without the food advertised as part of the ticket. Nasty staff several times stated " just so you know, I don't like dogs" and we were not to get any food. They even withheld serving the chips from out of town customers until I left so I didn't get any. Shocked kind out of towners took my dogs outside whilst I grabbed a few sandwiches, which the staff muttered about. Nasty in a town where locals (and many of the customers in the pub that day) are friendly and welcoming all year round. Suggest any pub other than this one in Hornsea, whether or...
