Absolutely appalling service. Visited here on Sunday 13th July 2025. My partner, friends and I ordered food via the website/order at the table option; waited an hour for food. When my partner queried about the wait we were informed the kitchen was closed to staff illness (this was not explained before our orders or following our orders, until we queried this) and when my partner asked about refunds we were informed the staff member on the bar did not know how to issue refunds so would contact her manager. She contacted her manager via WhatsApp message. After 30 minutes we went up to the bar to ask for an update and were asked to leave our details for a refund to be issued by the manager when they returned. When we had not received refunds by Wednesday I contacted them via email and they not only informed me they would be unable to process a refund due to their order system being separate; they claimed that the staff member that served us had told us that the kitchen was closed before we ordered. We were informed nothing could be done on their end and to contact our banks. My bank will not begin a claim for a further 3 days to give the Telegraph an opportunity to resolve this issue. They have taken our money. Do not order food here!!! Would rate this lower, but Google doesn't do a...
Read moreI came inside and sat in the middle of the bar opposite the cash register. I just wanted to have a quick drink and relax after a hard day. I asked a pint of the cheapest lager. One lady poured a beer and told me the price £3.85, really surprised me. I usually pay 1.49 -1.99 for a pint when I go out. But there it was double price!! I didn't say anything - just paid. When I came in, there was music playing in the bar, a bit louder than usual, but I thought I could resist. I pulled out my phone and started checking my email and homework for the next week. I am a university student and also work 45 hours a week. Thought I would rest for a while and get my thoughts together. I was sitting right in front of the audio speaker, which was not working hopefully. But the happiness didn't last long. Suddenly, a woman came up to me and started checking the wires. She asked me, "Is the speaker works? I replied that it is not and that was fine, because the music was loud. She ignored this and purposely reconnected the wires, turned the speaker in my face and switched on the music so loud that it was impossible to resist. I moved to another table, finished my beer quickly, and ran out of the bar. I had no desire to go back there...
Read moreI had an excellent experience at The Royal Telegraph in Derby! The atmosphere strikes the perfect balance between lively and welcoming, making it a great spot whether you’re catching up with friends, enjoying a casual meal, or stopping by for a drink. The staff are genuinely friendly and attentive, going out of their way to make sure everything is just right.
The food is freshly prepared, with generous portions and great value for money – the menu offers plenty of choice without being overwhelming. Drinks are well-priced too, with a solid selection on tap and plenty of options behind the bar.
The interior is clean and comfortable with a warm, inviting vibe, and the outdoor seating is a bonus on sunny days. All in all, it’s a place you look forward to returning to – consistently great service, tasty food, and a brilliant atmosphere.
Highly recommend The Royal Telegraph if...
